Hi all...

A couple of months ago I purchased a Saitek Cyborg joystick - http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/cyx.htm

Unfortunately, I can't seem to get it working with BF2. So far it is the only game I can try it on.

But.... this is what I have done.

My system's OS is Vista Enterprise x64

I downloaded two files from Saitek.com (driver and SST software - both are 64bit versions)

1. I plug the joystick into a available USB port.

2. I installed the driver file..

3. during the driver file install, it had me go through all the axis and button tests. All are fine.

4. At this time, I did not install the SST software because it seems that it was optional and that the games should recogize it with only the drivers.

5. Fired up BF2

6. Go into control tab -> helo tab.

7. setup/assigned all the controls for the joystick.

8. fired up a game

9. got into a helicopter......

10. of all the controls... ONLY 2 works... main fire trigger and a single button assigned for flares....

Nothing else responds... no pitch, no yaw, no roll, no acceleration, ........ nothing other than the two i mentioned....

Ummmm.... anyone have an idea what else I need to do ??????

Does BF2 support Saitek joystick????

Anyone have this joystick and has gotten it to work with BF2 and can pass along some knowledge that I need to do in order to get mine working?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Pretty sure it's something with your system, because I had a friend who had a Saitek Cyborg Evo stick and it worked with BF2 100%. Is the stick working in other games?

Liquid,

BF2 is the only game that I have where I would use the stick. :(

When I look at Saitek support area.... in general, there are supposed to be two entries in device manager... one ending in HID and the other USB under the Human interface Device. Both are there... and there are no warnings indicated... hmmm...

G.G. I don't want to insult your intelligence, but being a vet BF2 player, you know you have to manually set the pitch, yaw etc right? Just want to make sure. :X

Edit: why would you want to fly the helo with the joystick anyway? I tried it and can't do it, it's too difficult to aim. I use my Logitech Extreme 3D stick and got called jet whore countless times XD

Liquid,

Yeah.... after firing up BF2.... I went into the in game Control Tab -> Helicopter Tab and then set each of the settings to what I needed.... for examples:

Acceleration --> set the throttle stick forward and it would assign that particular axis
Deccelarate --> it would auto assign the same axis
Pitch Forward --> I would push the stick forward and it would assign that particular axis
Ptich Backward --> it would auto assign the same axis
Roll right --> I would push the stick to the right
Roll left --> it would auto assign the same axis
Steer right --> I would twist the stick to the right
Steer left --> it would auto assign the same axis
primary fire --> I would pull the trigger
alt fire --> I would click one of the buttons on the stick
change weapons --> I would roll the wheel on the stick
mouse view --> I would hit the toggle stick in the middle of the stick

so that is what I did.... as for auto assign the same axis.... everytime I would click on the opposite movement to be assigned, it would give me a message that says something about already has the same key assigned.... then I would click ok to rid of the message...

So I was thinking that this was all i needed to do...... but it doest work....

OK ... found the issue !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My brother ran across an issue in regards to joystick after BF2 patch 1.5 at EA, for which I didnt think about doing a search there..... DOH....

BUT....

Basically what EA did was they intigrated that FALCON peripheral into the game settings as default stick... This has caused alot of third party joystick to all of the sudden stop working .... And for me... since I had never used a stick prior to Falcon's integration... I didnt have the luxury of knowing if my hardware had worked prior to the issue.

To get around this... you go into the common control tab of the game and do a reset to default and click apply. Then you go to every control tab i.e. jet, helicopter, land vehicle, etc.... and delete anything that has to do with FALCON by clicking on the item and hit esc button. Once that is done on each tab, click apply before going to the next tab. Ok... now that is out of the way... come back to each tab that you want to configure/setup the your own stick..... configure it into the secondary position. Leave the default primary as mouse. just configure the stick into the secondary position....

Wha La..... my joystick started to work.... well at least for me... hopefully if someone else has a stick issue either that it worked once and then all of the sudden it doesnt work, Or never worked due to a new install....especially after patch 1.5.... this could help resolve the issue..

Now.... the trick is getting use to the stick... it's like much better at flying.... but at the same time NOT.... heheheh... guess its gonna take alot of practice... I havent even tried the jet yet.... not sure what that is going to be like... heheheh

Haha I'm glad you have it fixed G.G. As far as jets are concerned, with a joystick you can dominate. When I first started playing BF2 4 years ago I used the keyboard to fly jets, and I did ok. But after I got my joystick, I routinely get 50/0 K/D ratio or higher in Wake Island with jets XD

Helicopters I still prefer keyboard/mouse, however I'm curious to see how you do with the stick.

Right now..... with the helicopter.... I can take off and fly around a bit.... but when the action gets going..... that is where the problem start to arise for me.... the copter gets into a oscillation that is hard to get out and I crash that's if the enemy havent shot me down first. LOL.... I have been adjusting the yaw and pitch adjustments up a little bit at a time and it is helping.... just got to find the right spot... The one thing I forget is that to steer right/left.... I have to twist the stick... heheheheh... The third axis... hehehe... I may try doing the steer with the keyboard in combination with doing the other axis with the stick....

As for the jets... I havent configure the stick for it just yet.....

The only thing I cant figure out how to configure is the view... its where your pilot view can pan from left to right and vice versa.... I tried to configure it using the stick in the middle of the joystick but it really doesnt do anything... Not sure if im configuring it in the right place in the helicopter control tab... hmmmmm

Yeah the view panning option never worked for me either actually, so I just assigned the POV stick on the joystick to front view, rear view and fly-by instead, since these are Crucial in combat.
