I am having a problem with the Gigabyte GN-WP01GS pci wireless card. I get ridiculously slow download speeds compared to the other computers in my apartment. When I speedtest.net with this card I get a 1.0 mbps or less download and the other computers in my apt get ~17 mbps. It once worked fine but I do not know what happened.
I used the standard drivers that came with the card, but I read on Newegg reviews that these were no good and many people said to get the new drivers at the RAlink website. I downloaded and installed the new driver and nothing has changed. I didn't uninstall the previous driver, not sure if that is the problem, but when I check the wireless card in device manager it says it is using the the most recent RAlink driver. I uninstalled the Gigabyte config utility and tried using the RAlink config utility and no changes. I then tried using the Windows zero config and still no help. I'm running out of ideas. Gigabyte doesn't have an official forum either. Here is what I'm using
Windows XP w/ SP2
Athlon X2 5200+
4gig DDR2 RAM
640gig hard drive-western dig
Linksys WRTGL router

Are you saying it works, but its just really slow? And the computers you compare the internet speed to, are they wired to the router (using an ethernet cable)? If not, are they closer to the router (better wireless signal)?

You will get slower speeds in general when it comes to wireless vs wired. When my computer is plugged into the router directly i get very fast speeds around 20Mbps, but when I use my wireless adapter, Im lucky if i get a couple Mbps.

my laptop is wireless and gets 17mbps on speedtest. The connection on my desktop with the problematic wireless card fluctuates a lot between 2 and 4 bars and anywhere from 18mbps to 54 mbps as per the Wireless Network Connection Status. When I download stuff online my download speeds go from 5 kb/sec to 75 kb/sec tops. On my laptop I will get more than a megabyte/sec downloads on the same sites via wireless network. Youtube videos barely load. It is pretty unbearable.

try completely uninstall all utilities and drivers for that wireless card and then move the card to a different pci slot and reinstall the drivers and configure it using ms wireless zero config.


It could be possible that the wireless card has bit the bucket....
