Hi here everyone,

I just came across this

http://www.guru3d.com/news/nvidia-gt300s-fermi-architecture-unveiled/

If this is anywhere close to the real thing, we have a storm on the way.

So, Plug, how does this sound to you?

Fuuuuck! Quote...

"you can expect to see configurations with 1.5, 3.0 GB and 6GB of GDDR5 memory, but more on that a little bit later."

Now this's what I've been waiting for! The memory sizes in GPU's. Finally! FINALLY!
I only mentioned this the other week about "limited memory" in GPU's.
If this's true, we are in for a wild ride! The specs look phenominal... still reading tho....

Thank fook I got baggy trousers on reading this!

So... does the warranty cover reactor melt downs, radiation fall out, skin grafting surgery, and government quarantine?

Will I need to purchase millions of dollars of heavy water to provide cooling? What happens when the super pressurized steam leaks out?

yeah, you defenitly are going to need to run that thing on cold fusion reactor or some dark matter to power it.

I just got done reading the anandtech article on the new nVidia GPU looks like the green team is betting on stagnation in the PC gaming sector and trying to push parallel computing instead.

I sure hope they're wrong... stupid consoles ruining the gaming industry with their "cookie cutter" mediocre games, with crap graphics that stress only the lower ends of gaming PCs. >:o

Maybe what needs to happen is AMD, Intel, and nVidia should do is start a joint venture game company that ONLY makes PC games that push high end hardware to its limits... No console ports, no sacrificing features for the benefits of those that can't keep thier hardware up to date, no hacking the story short because it won't fit on a DVD, nothing but no holds barred no appologies cutting edge games. You know something that could put out a AAA blockbuster title like Crysis (with DX9 disabled) every 6 or 8 months. I bet that would re-invigorate the PC gaming industry and drive hardware upgrades.

Or it'll drive people up the wall, around corners, down mine shafts, until we've run out of straight jackets.

I couldn't afford a full system upgrade every 6 - 8 months.

no one said you had to be able to play the game on release day... It would just give you something to shoot for.

I like the idea Bungle, maybe not so hardcore as you describe it but a company that does quality titles with excellent programming for PC's is a dream come true. Instead of the latest video card how about they only cover one line up? Like, lets say a game came out last year or so it will cover only the 8-9 series line up from nvidia and the 4 series from Ati.

*Edit*

Tam, I'm curious. What's so good about having let's say 4gb GDDR5 on a vid card? I thought t=games barely pushed a card to 1gb and that was on 2560x1600 resolutions I believe.

*Edit* EDIT*

Although I agree this card seems like a champion that will most certainly will beat Ati. But so what if it does? If it comes, lets say 4 to 5 months later than when Ati ships the 5xxx series for retail then I think Nvidia will sell badly. I think that AMD is planning to ship out the 5xxx series as fast as it can so they can take advantage of say $350ish price range, then when Nvidia retails their product they'll lower the card to the $250ish dollar range and thus taking sales from nvidia. Unless of course Nvidia actually revolutionized GPU performance! The card can run C++ ! Maye developers will favor Nvidia even more now in games.

How about shooting for a Phenom II 920 / Q6600 + GTX260 / HD 4870 as minimum playable specs? (and by playable I mean turning out 40FPS at 1600x1200 / 1680x1050res)

Can't believe you asked that question, but if you given a set amount of hardware in this
case RAM, you have a boundary. Limits. You can't explore when there's limits.
Have you played the latest GTA? I wasn't that impressed with the graphics. Nothing
special, but that game (on the highest settings I used) used all my GPU memory (768Mb)
and wanted more, and this caused the game to not run smooth. Sounds to me like
the 1Gb GPU cards were at the limit there too.

The problem with the GPU industry, is that it needs a huge kick up the f**kin arse.
And by the sounds of it, it's getting it.

I know I have a high end GCPU in my rig, but I dont think it would be worth the upgrade just yet....I am only recently starting to see my games slow down like honey on the screen. My next card will be the monster 4870x2.

>> Re: GT300 Specs. Real?
I think its pure overkill TBH, I mean I dont want a card that looks good on paper and does not do the job it was designed for. Who gives a f**k that a card has 6GB GDDR5, and more shaders then half the BRONX.

I am not saying this is a dual card setup but.....

I honestly think that dual GPU's are a fookin joke, a cheap and lazy way of getting more money on an old and sometimes inferior product. Most GPU's are rushed out anyway only for the card that should have been released come to life 5/6 months down the road. I will only ever buy a single PCB card anymore regardless of the power and performance of its x2 rival.

Take the GTX295 for example 1798MB of RAM but the total amount available to each GPU is only half that, so at any given time only a fraction of that RAM is being used...MADNESS. Thats the problem with dual GPUs they are not TOTALLY independant of each other and couple that with extremely bad drivers ( I am using 185.xx drivers at present!!!!) its f**king terrible that a HIGH END product get low end support.

I honestly think nvidia are nearly bankrupt with the shoddy direction the company is taking....totally taking the eye of the ball.

BTW....

My Coolermaster Real Power 1000 will power this beast...and peeps said I was mad.

COMPUTERS ARE NOT JUST MY LIFE...THEY ARE MUCH MORE IMPORTANT THEN THAT.
GO SELL CRAZY SOMEWHERE ELSE....WE'RE ALL STOCKED UP HERE!!!!!!

GTA 4 is a bad example I believe, it could have run so much better than it does. It's just coded terribly I think.

Precisely, hence why I used that as an example. Can't believe it used all my 769MB up
for the max settings. Even Crysis doesn't do this!

I thought you were saying that GTA 4 is actually that hard to run. Indicating that it would be the hardest game to run at this point in time - which is probably true, just for different reasons, lol. Is there a program to monitor how much videocard RAM a program is using? This would be interesting to see.

From what I've read the killer in the PC version of GTA 4 is that they allow draw distances out 10 or 15 times further than on th consoles. This makes a huge difference when everything on the horizon has to be 3D rendered. I don't think that the game is "coded poorly" I think you just need to buy a faster video card. :)

Bravo Rockstar games!

Push the limits, code for hardware that doesn't exist yet! Anything to end the endless turnout of crap games that we can all run at 150+FPS because improvements in gaming graphics stagnated when game companies reached the limits of the XBOX 360 GPU.

Okay here goes.

GTX285 has always been faster than ATI's offerings due to its 512bit memory controller. But the 512bit controller costs a LOT and therefore nvidia's cards have been significantly more expensive on the high-end side.

Whats happening now is ATi is staying at 256bit to cut down the cost of their 5xxx series cards but nvidia knows that it cant release a new card and start charging a lot more for it than the current ati offerings. Especially because ATI is most likely to lower their prices before GT300 comes out and after the launch.

So nvidia had to "downsize" their memory controller going back to 8xxx series of cards with 384-bit. I suspect their cards will be faster than ATI's but again, more expensive.

Even with next gen ATi cards out now the 285GTX beats them in some benchmarks but only in synthetic ones and only because of its 512-bit memory controller vs 256-bit on ATI.
