nVidia has been iritating me lately with all their rebrands and meaningless letters they insist on plastering all over their products. I think I may go red this time out of protest.. I mean how many times have we rebranded a 8800GT now? nVidia should just change the name of their whole company to G92 Rebranders Inc. It's about as absurd as what Intel did with the Pentium 4... In fact it is as absurd as what Intel did with the P4! The P4 was strewn across 3 sockets we had P4A (skt 423), P4B (S478 533FSB), P4C (S478 800FSB), P4D (Prescott), P4 EE (expensive edition), P4 32bit skt 775(Meaningless 5xx Series model number line), P4 64bit skt 775 (Meaningless 6xx series model number line).. FFS why wouldn't they just call the damn thing a Pentium 5!?

Oh and now we have nVidia with the most inept marketing department in history with an 8xxx series that spans 2 generations of GPU core, then the G92 that has been in the 8800GT, 8800GTS (512), 9800GT, 9800GTX, 9800GTX+, GTS 250, GTX 280M, GTX 260M... and what the hell is the damn point of all this GTXTOXSTG CRAP!? >:o
If they would be consistent so that you could figure out what the damn things meant from one series to the next it would be okay but jeebus they change the order of the letters every fricken time!

it makes me want to stab somebody just thinking about it! AHHHHHHH!!!!

*takes a few deep breaths*

Besides its not like a 5 series Radeon is not going to leave me wanting in the performance department.. especially running this antiquated Core 2 Quad its not like I've got enough CPU to push anything to outrageous anyway.

Soviet,

What nVidia card has heating issues apart from maybe the 9800GX2, all nvidia cards run hot but I never had a card in the last 3 generations suffering from overheating. Then again my rig runs really cool and is setup properly.

I feel a tad cheated in relation to my GTX, in so far as I got a really good product with terrible support....I swear and I stand buy this, that if nvidia got their fingers out and actually worked on a SERIOUS DRIVER you would get prolly 10-20% more performance from this card. Dont get me wrong I am playing the likes of NFS SHIFT at 1920x1200 with 16AA & 8AF with full motion blur etc and its EYE CANDY!!!

But other games I have had broke my heart...I mean I am currently running the outdated 185.XX drivers to cure the microstuttering in NFS.

I think its pure overkill TBH, I mean I dont want a card that looks good on paper and does not do the job it was designed for. Who gives a f**k that a card has 6GB GDDR5, and more shaders then half the BRONX.

I am not saying this is a dual card setup but.....

I honestly think that dual GPU's are a fookin joke, a cheap and lazy way of getting more money on an old and sometimes inferior product. Most GPU's are rushed out anyway only for the card that should have been released come to life 5/6 months down the road. I will only ever buy a single PCB card anymore regardless of the power and performance of its x2 rival.

Take the GTX295 for example 1798MB of RAM but the total amount available to each GPU is only half that, so at any given time only a fraction of that RAM is being used...MADNESS. Thats the problem with dual GPUs they are not TOTALLY independant of each other and couple that with extremely bad drivers ( I am using 185.xx drivers at present!!!!) its f**king terrible that a HIGH END product get low end support.

I honestly think nvidia are nearly bankrupt with the shoddy direction the company is taking....totally taking the eye of the ball.

BTW....

My Coolermaster Real Power 1000 will power this beast...and peeps said I was mad.

From what my and all of yours favorite IT guy said, Nvidia isnt going for the total high end market anymore. They are more interested in seeing their products being shipped in Dells and HPs.

That's bull about Nvidia going toward DELL, etc and not manufacturing high end cards!
Absolute nonsense! Why shoot yourself in the foot? Ffs

nVidia is afraid they will be marginalized in the future because they don't offer a full platform like AMD and Intel so they are going to try and carve out a niche for themselves in the mainstream market and research spaces where they can make more money then they could ever hope to catering to us enthusiasts.

Oh the fanboy force is strong with this one! Haha just joking man but its true they are more interested in mainstream computers because thats where the REAL moneys at.
On a side note, my parents have an HP laptop and guess what GPU companys sticker is plastared on the front?

Lol nah not a fan-boy. But I just can't see that happening in that sense. Yes they maybe
want to concentrate on the DELL, etc markets, but that doesn't mean they're going to
push the Desktop to the side. If you are generating money on both sides here, then
why leave one for the other? Sounds ridiculous. Personally, I wouldn't like to see either
ATi or Nvid do this.

Yeah, its makes sense. TBH as I said I really do think that nvidia are feeling the pinch in the current economic climate. Thats why they are been FORCED to look at different avenues to get revenue....and why they are so so slow getting out new products.

If they did get a mobile variant of a GPU contracted to Dell machines it would be huge $$$$$$$$$ in the kitty.

Better start getting the driver issues sorted 1st I say....

BTW Tam,

You p**s green you are such a fanboy....

Haha I go went where the power is.
I'm pretty sure not only Nvid, but ATi are feeling the poor economic climate,
and for that matter Intel et al.

Yeah but with AMD/ATi they have a much wider portfollio of components to sell so they will not be feeling it as bad as nvidia....intel no doubt will be feeling it also but they have such a stronghold on the market it will not be as bad either.

HA!

Look at this....Nvidia really trying to corner a niche market and make money!!!!!

I don't know about that Plug... I mean how long has it been since AMD reported a profit?

Absolute point! I didn't mention this before, since I thought the majority knew this?
Maybe these coming months may change things for them. For everyone in fact!

Lets hope so... I've been at my job for about 3 years now... not that I'm complaining too much... I'm pretty happy to just have a job right now, but its an entry level postion and I'd like to pick something up with more responsibility (and pay) but the job market is such crap right now I'm not sure there's really anywhere else to go.

I see all of this stuff with CUDA and what its capable off. Now, wouldn't it be cool if Nvidia revolutionized the PC's by making CPU's obsolete? Let's say they develop a motherboard that instead of using the same old cpu + gpu combo it manages to use a special dedicated, err... CG/PU :~

You get what I mean? :/

I don't think we want that to happen..

GPU's are great at tasks that can run in parallel but sequential tasks not so much, so if you could get the GPU to execute general purpose sequential code it would be like a flash back to 1998 with everything running at 600MHz.

Good point Bungle....but the flip side to that is that they were always struggling for years when just selling CPU's. So they never had excellant profit margins, always playing 2nd fiddle to nvidia and intel. I mean its a wonder how they around to today att all. I mean in a very competitive market like this up against two HUGE companies and still around FAIR PLAY. You betcha ass they are doing alot better now then before, not saying they are milking it but they have totally turned things around, and the 48xx series has been flying off the shelves and they have the incentive in the DX11 stakes with the UBER 58xx series.
