I just discovered Aero Shake where you left click on a window and shake it back and forth and it magickly minimizes all other windows that are open on the desktop. Did Vista have this?

No, this is one of tweaks they put into Windows 7.

Another one I discovered by accident is double-clicking top or bottom edge of any window (while your cursor is up/down arrow) maximizes it vertically - very handy to make windows taller when you are reading something.

I disabled that too. The part about that I didn't like is that if you drag a top edge of window and touch it to the top of the screen it maximizes it vertically as well. I found that annoying for when I was trying to activate windows that are in the corner/edge. Just by clicking the window once would make it maximize. Ugh.

I disabled all that and use WindowSpace instead. The best part about it is that it will let you do Aero Snap to corners as quadrants, as well as top-half/bottom-half, as opposed to just left-half/right-half.

I use WinSplit Revolution which does those kinds of things but with keyboard shortcuts (ctrl-alt-1 through 9).

Otherwise, I rarely resize or even move individual windows, other than when I need to see something large such as a photo or a long text article.

The border-snap is a good first step for Windows, but it doesn't really work if you have multiple monitors. I have way too many on my desk. :)

I'm also still getting used to mousing over window previews that popup above bottom task bar which hides all windows except the one you are mousing over. Very handy when you have many similarly-named windows open (such as terminals or even web browsers) and need to find some buried one.

Yeah, I like that one as well.

the ONLY useful window action in aero windows7 is bing able to open pages on left and right side of the screen. Thats nice but everything else is a waste of time..

It feels strange getting used to all these new tricks. It takes a while to get the hang of them.

Hey thanks for getting me looking.
I think the 'tricks' are cool. Especially the Aero Snap, as I can watch two interactive websites at the same time.
