Hi guys,

I am going to buy one of these. Which one do you guys recommend?

Is the HD drive of the XBOX360 pretty much useless?

The real thing to buy a console for is what games are out on it. Personally, I like the Xbox Live aspect of the 360 and enjoy Forza Motorsport 2 (3 is arriving within the month) and Halo 3.

I have had both systems and will give you my honest opinion on both of them. (I recently sold my 360 for a PS3 by the way). This is based on a Xbox 360 Pro and PS3 Slim.

People say the games on the 360 are much better than the PS3, but I beg to differ. Most games that are out are now made for both platforms so this becomes less of an issue. (except for exclusive games). The 360 scales well, games look good and run fairly smooth. It's controllers feel nice and are easy to manage. Online play costs money, but is solid. The system is made for games, period. The system is also prone to the Red Ring of Death as you know - so watch out!

The PS3 has all the same features as the 360 and more, much more. One of the biggest reasons I bought the PS3 was for Blu-Ray, as an actual Blu-Ray player itself costs over $200. Most games are in 720p instead of 1080p which is one downfall, though they are starting to make games at 1080p now. The PS3 exclusives are worth enough to buy the system itself IMO. (Metal Gear Solid 4, Resistance 1 & 2, KIllzone 2, Uncharted 1 & 2, GT5...etc). All games look and play great. After getting used to the controller, I actually like it just as much as I liked the 360 controller. The dual-shock controllers have more technology in them in the 360 controllers also. The PS3 has a 120gb harddrive which is more than enough space for anything you would need. Free online play, built in wireless are also perfect features that the 360 doesn't have.

Recap:

Xbox 360 -

Good games/Games look good
Well built controllers
-Possible Red Ring of Death issue / having to worry about overheating
-Have to pay for online play
-No Blu-Ray player
-No wireless internet

PlayStation 3(Slim) -

Great exclusive games
Well built high-tech controllers
Blu-Ray player
Wireless internet
120GB hard-drive
Free online play
-Most games in 720p

Unless I'm missing something, the choice is obvious. I'm much more happy with the PS3 than 360 is all I can say.

Thanks Michael, but do many people play online with the PS3? Is the community as good?

I don't try to play online much but I did play a bit of Killzone 2 and it was packed in there, a lot of fun. I will put on some other games tonight and let you know if you wish? I'm sure the community is nearly the same as the 360 due to the amount of people owning a PS3.

XBox! Much easier to pirate games for :D

HDD is also nice as you install games to it and play from there - shorter load times and no jet engine noise from the drive

I don't understand what you mean. Quite sure you can install games on the PS3 hard-drive, though I would never. It's known that the 360 is much louder than the PS3. The 360 used to shake my floor because it was spinning so fast and the fans were loud. The PS3 is so quite you can't even hear it from 3-4 feet away. Another bonus of the PS3, if it matters to you.

A big plus is that with the PS3 you have an internal PSU and not that ugly brick hanging out like with the Xbox360. Seriously, I was connecting my friends Xbox360 in my house to play Street Fighter 4 and when I grabbed that thing I thought "Da f**k is this!?" It's almost a foot long and a tad bit heavy.

Plus, you also get some Xbox games on the PC so it's not worth it imo.

I was more referring the the point Kieran made of the HDD on the the 360 being useless, not at all trying to say the PS3 cant do these things if not better, I love both consoles just the 360 the most; even though I'm sure I could fashion some form of crude hoover from it if I tried.

Not the HDD, the HD Drive

*Reads twice*.....Ah.... I swear I saw another D in there..... ok ignore me.

You know I'm sure I saw an interesting mod to be done by tearing the laser diode from the now useless HD drives and rigging up a driver circuit for a pretty laser pointer.

I love my Xbox360 but i wish it had a keyboard and mouse to game with it.I hate the controllers. But seriously the only reason to get a PS3 over the Xbox is if you just wanna use blueray.Me i dont care about blueray. If you do get an Xbox make sure you get a Jasper unit mine hasnt locked on me or ever giving me any problems

I have an xbox 360 and I love it.

Honestly you will enjoy which ever you pick. Like 80% of games that come out are released for both consoles.

PS3 does seem to make the most sense though, mostly because of the blu-ray drive and its new, MUCH smaller design & price.

It's funny how it goes. If you have one system and go to the other it's suddenly amazing because it's different.

Well, I think I'm gonna get an XBOX 360 Eite ( I like the black ). As Most of ym friends have them and we can battle online, and I don't need Blu Ray at the moment as my new build ( saving has already started, price it at $2400 ) will definitely have a Blu Ray player.

Thanks for the opinions and suggestions fellas!

It'd be nice to have both wouldn't it?

Honestly the PS3 is the better system(it's black you know), but if you have tons of friends that you will get to play with online and otherwise wouldn't on the PS3, I can see why you want a 360.

PS3 controller makes the 360 controller look like an Atari controller technology wise.
