Nice Mike.Im jealous now.Dual 5870's.Thats way more power than you could ever need for a 24 inch LCD monitor.

Nice.

I don't feel like going through 6 pages of posts, what made you choose the i7 over the i5?

What RAM are you using and how much?

How much did you spend on board, CPU, and RAM? I'm thinking I might upgrade fairly soon and want to get a ballpark idea.

Cost me $659 give or take a few dollars with shipping and what not for my mobo/ram/ and cpu.But my ram was $94 but now its selling for $144 and the i7 920 has dropped a few dollars but i custom ordered my cpu for its specific stepping so i paid about $50 extra dollars for it

The reason i went with the i7 was that it would complement the 2 5870s better by having three way memory or something. Also, it was not that much more expensive.

I traded my old components in for credit because lucky for me somebody wanted to buy exactly what i had so i got a really good deal. The whole thing cost me 1750. Thats pretty damn good considering 2 5870s is about 800 So the mobo, cpu, psu and ram cost 950.
i have ddr 3 ram.

why the i7 940 over the much much cheaper i7 920? it can't be the 330mhz more :(

You can either be part of the problem or be part of the solution.

Super rig mate....really nice ....kudos. Made a little boo boo in my eyes. If you really really wanted dual 5870's I would have got one now and waited for a price drop for the other as the 24" TFT will easily cope with one.

What make PSu have you and what Ram?

Dual 5870's is just sick. Almost overkill for that resolution at the moment, but will they'll serve well in the future. If they can actually perfect Crossfire, you will have one hell of a system then.

Q6600 G0 @ 3.5ghz
XFX ATI Radeon HD4870 1GB
4GB OCZ Reaper 1066mhz
SAMSUNG Spinpoint F1 1TB

Michael, that was the only way i could justify it to myself, that it would be along lasting thing. I usually dont spend hardly any money, but this was something i thought would be really kickass because i spend most of my time playing Arma and messing around with Photoshop. Im going to enjoy the s**t out of this motherf**ker.

Stock cooler is the cpu cooler shipped in the retail cpu box. It comes with a cpu so you kinda get it "free" but it is known that they're the worst quality coolers.

Are they still using the push down pins...?

TBH its got nothing to do with EPENIS soviet m8, Even a artic freezer HSF are very cheap and cool extremely well. Reduce temps and you will prolong the life of the CPU...technically in anyway. Not that you will actually have the CPU long enough to see the benefit with peeps upgrading so quickly. But if you buy the high end HSF's that cool the surrounding MOSFETS aswell then its money well spent...and you have it the life of the CPU socket not just that CPU....

Considering that i will not be upgrading anything but my GPUs for atleast 2 or 3 years, would it be benificial to install a better cooler? I may even keep it longer.

I would mate TBH. Its nothing urgent but the next few $$$ you have to spare get a good cooler. I mean the money you have spent and having that stock cooler on there takes the whole look of the rig...its the 1st thing I spotted when I looked at the pics...not the 5870's.

Also if you dont have proper airflow set up them dual GPU's are gonna raise the ambient temps of the whole rig...BIGTIME.

Just have a think about it mate.
