Okay this is a weird one.....

I have done a fresh install of vista 64 with 3 internal and 1 external HDD's. Every single nvidia driver I install WILL NOT WORK.....NONE.

I get the following error with a BSOD....."nvlddmkm.sys"

Now I can boot into safe mode no problem, and I can leave the system on for hours with NO DRIVER installed aswell.....but with any driver as soon as I do anything that involves a game or anything with a GUI it hangs...flickers...and error with BSOD.

Every driver from 182.xx up to the very latest does not work...And remember this is a fresh install with only motherboard drivers and no windows updates. I have checked online and some of the suggestions are 4/5 yrs old and I tried the copy and pasted from nvidia folder etc and does not work.

This is the first problem in YEARS I cannot get my head around, unless the GTX295 is faulty which is very unlikey as it was fine up until fresh install. And was fine before install, the only reason why I done a fresh install was I could not get it working with old O/S.

Can you not get another GPU from someone else just to try to figure out if it's the
GPU instead? Just read a forum for a GPU manufacturer, and one of the team asked the
originator of the thread to send in an e-ticket. You're best bet at this stage, is to obtain
a GPU for testing purposes. This'll give you a better idea of the problem - which I'm sure
you've thought about anyways.

Just been reading this and....

"After packing my GTX295 back into it's box, I pulled out my old 8800GT and let the Physx screensaver run over night (it's kind of like my benchmark, because it always resulted in a BSOD on the GTX295) and sure enough, it lasted for more than 12 hours, before I decided to stop it. Much, much longer than the GTX295."........

I aint got a PCI-E GPU lying around...I have sent back my Mobo relating to the RAM and PCI-X Xfi card so we see then, I mailed XFX tech support and I swear they are not very good at all.

But they did say to contact the reseller for RMA if not resolved...but for the f**king life of me I cannot remember who I got it off!!!!

You can't remember where you bought it?? Do you not have a confirmation e-mail somewhere? I always save that stuff.

Have you uninstalled / re-installed it? (I mean physically too - maybe switch the PCI-E slot).

I have a funny feeling something may have gone fubar with your Windows install, so why not try to wipe the OS, start from scratch - and don't plug in ANYTHING you don't need until you'll installed the OS and all drivers etc.

Might be an idea to burn them all to a CD, or pop them on a USB stick.

Are you running RAID? If not, unplug all your internal drives bar the main OS one, and defo unplug the external.

Then try re-install everything, OS, drivers etc then install your other internals, and plug in the external.

I swear I had a similar issue a while ago.

But I suppose before going down that route, uninstall the card from device manager, uninstall nvidia driver (all of them) from Programs wizard thing, and delete the folder with all the nvidia drivers, then try reboot, re-install. If that doesn't work, then go with the above.

I've had Windows installs go very wrong as well. If it was working fine before with the same OS, I would suspect the new install went b0rked.

Thats just it dubs.....

I have done all that. I have installed vista 64 on just one HDD and straight from the word go...no install. Its f**king madness, I have had a small issue with my board from day one with the xfi bundled card and the odd crash every 3 weeks or so. But I have it clocked pretty high for a Q9450.....but when it would not boot the other day with my old RAM and would not clear BIOS...I have RMA'ed the board.

So I am on the laptop for the next 5 mths or so....depending on the length of time Asus fook me up the ass.

I am hoping that I get it back in time for new Call Of Duty on the 10th Nov.

I can absolutely guarantee you the problems you were having with the drivers were installing them on an unstable, high clocked machine.

Had you done all of your installs at stock, you probably would not have these problems.

How come the new board anyway?

Well in that case, it boils down to one thing only:

USER ERROR
