Sounds like a nice feature!

http://lifehacker.com/5379936/snow-leopard-bug-deleting-entire...r-accounts
In some cases, users have reported finding their regular account empty of data, as though it were a brand new account.

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/10/13/snow_leopard_data_eati...w_leopard/
Fanboi complaints of a mystery data-munching Mac OS bug began well before the arrival of Snow Leopard, Apple's latest desktop operating system. Similar tales of woe date back to at least November of 2007, when Jobsian cultists were still using the previous Mac OS version, just plain Leopard.

I don't seem to recall Vista ever deleting all of my data at random ...

Yeah, I saw that. Apparently it's tending to happen for those who had a guest account on 10.5 and then updated to 10.6. That's a s**tty situation, especially since a lot of people don't have external backups.

Another excellent example of OSX "just working".

In fairness - and I know I'm saying this in a total anti Mac forum - OSX is pretty damn good.

I use 10.5.8 in work (latest before 'Snow Leopard'), and find it bloody great.

I've never experienced such problems. Oh, and its not ALL of your data is deletes, its just user data, like settings etc

Basically, similar to what would be in your users/me in Windows.

Strange bloomin' problem though. Seems to have something to do with how a second 'guest' account is set up after upgrading.

Well, for me that would include the entirety of my Documents folder -- something I'd rather not lose. I've always kept my music on another partition, though.

Oh it is a big problem alright, and would play havok with custom program settings.

Its funny, the attitude most people have towards OSX seems the same as the attitude people have / had about Vista.

Most likely, the attitude born from never actually working with the system for more than 5 minutes - or believing rubbish spouted on the 'net.

People going on here about a silly bug in a NEW version of an OS, just like the morons who couldn't figure out how to make Vista work...

**sigh**

Dubbsy, just for you, Snow Leopard is also going to delete your collection of zoophilia pictures.

I don't have a problem with Mac's in general nearly as much as I do with Apple's smug attitude towards PC's and PC users.
