Hi all

Could some1 help me please. I need to get rid of the BIOS password on a Toshiba laptop A215-S5818. I rebooted my laptop the other day and all of a sudden it wants a BIOS password after the Toshiba startup splash screen. Toshiba says that they had a bug in their BIOS that creates it's own BIOS password and no password I enter will satisfy it. Toshiba tech support says they can't help and I have to send it into a authorized service center. I am out of warranty so sending it in for repair isn't really a option atm.

I have read that there is a way to reset the BIOS password myself. They're is even a link on eBay to buy a guide to do it myself. Which I dont really trust. So I have tried a few things. But I haven't had any luck.

I've tried
Flashing the BIOS: Which I'm not sure if I did right

Shorting CMOS: After booting it asked me to press f1 for default settings or f2 to setup BIOS. But after pressing either it still wants a password. :/

Shorting pins under memory: Not sure if I shorted the right pins. I tried shorting the two together beside a XXX. But that had no effect.

Help would be awesome. I've been searching the net for hours and hours trying to find a solution.:~

Thanks in advance

>> WOOT I FIXED IT. c how below
Good news.

After hours and hours of trying to figure this out FINALLY A SOLUTION.

TOSHIBA CAN BITE MY SHINY METAL AZZZ

1. take off the RAM cover
2. take out the RAM
3. peel off the black sticker covering the motherboard
4. find the solder pads labeled XXX
5. re-install one stick of RAM in the upper slot
6. short the solder pads using a small screwdriver or some other implement, scraping off the invisible layer of cruft that may be present over the blobs
7. while shorting those pads, boot the machine (you may to lay the computer sideways or with the monitor flat)
8. load the BIOS defaults when prompted
9. boot into windows and install the latest BIOS
10. enjoy not having to send your laptop away to Toshiba

Also IDK if its part of the "magic" but i let the shaft of the screwdriver rest on the metal right above the solderpoints which is actaully part of the DVD drive.

Man i'm so happy now. I had already tried this but it didnt work. Then i read this http://digitalcardboard.com/blog/2009/02/25/take-that-toshiba/ and it suggested to scrape the solder points a little. They dont got an emoticon smiley big enough 4 me right now. I'll try this 1. 8)
