I began to notice today when I searched for a 4gb DDR2 kit! The outrageously higher prices compared to a few months ago means that they are indeed being branded obsolete!

DDR2 is starting to escalate in price as time passes, so act now if you were planning to buy an extra kit for whatever reasons. If you guys are dubious then check out the prices. Chances are that if you wait you'll end up paying the same amount you originally had payed for them or more! DDR2 is the new DDR1 :(

This reminds me of the Twilight Zone episode The Obsolete Man!

Out of coincidence I found the opening narration of the episode:

"You walk into this room at your own risk, because it leads to the future; not a future that will be, but one that might be. This is not a new world: It is simply an extension of what began in the old one. It has patterned itself after every dictator who has ever planted the ripping imprint of a boot on the pages of history since the beginning of time. It has refinements, technological advancements, and a more sophisticated approach to the destruction of human freedom. But like every one of the super states that preceded it, it has one iron rule: Logic is an enemy, and truth is a menace. This is Mr. Romney Wordsworth, in his last forty-eight hours on Earth. He's a citizen of the State, but will soon have to be eliminated, because he's built out of flesh and because he has a mind. Mr. Romney Wordsworth, who will draw his last breaths in the Twilight Zone."

Interesting that they are going up. The demand for them seems to be very high still.

Would it be advisable to get another 4GB now before the prices soar?

If you're already at 4, I surely don't see the point. If a system with your specs were to struggle with a lack of memory, I'd think you'd need a whole new rig to match. To have 8 would just be gloating.

I agree, 4 is enough - for now. I wouldn't mind having 8 though because it would be cool shiz, LOL. If I ended up needing 8 and it started costing $150 I wouldn't be too happy though.

Dude, that is what's called "Natural Orders". Older stuff, demand goes down, price goes up, replaced by newer and faster stuff, and eventually goes obsolete. Don't need to be so over dramatic with Twilight Zone... ;)
