It is a lovely piece of kit, I am sure its more exspensive aswell. TBH alot of peeps are having trouble with the 5870 but I think its the drivers....but apparently the fan is still woefull loud..thats why I would like a different heatsink other then the reference design.

I dont think they will be out before I leave the states...but I dont mind thank god as I have a woeful GTX295 as backup.

Plug, what you really want is for the nvidia cards to arrive. I'm sure you will be mad as hell with video cards if you buy this card and the nvidia card ends up totally whooping the hell out of the 5870. You'll say things like Pc isn't worth it anymore and you'll stick to your PS3 from now on.

I tell ya.... Sapphire sure do make some fine cards as of late in the past couple of years..

I have the Sapphire 4870 1gb card with a very same cooling solution. love my card. the reference coolers are yuk.....

You see I am at a bit of a cross roads mate. On the one hand I have a very fast and very capable GTX295, that does really perform flawlessly. Unfortunately the drivers are really bad and I get alot of niggly issues like micro stutter and that on my favorite games, Nothing major but annoying none the less.

I would not even contemplate getting a 5870 only for I am going to the states and it will cost me around half the price with the exchange rate...if I dont like it I will sell it and at the very worst make my money back.

Thought the new Nvidia cards were quite a while away from being released? I'd buy now if I had the cash, the Radeon 5k seem really impressive.

The flip side to that is....

What if nvidia just release the GTX295 with 2GB GDDR5 (fully accesable) with a single PCB and bigger memory bit interface (which @ 256 is too low on the 5870 IMHO) and it would be a monster also....albeit lacking DX11.

Once Fermi is out Ati will prolly release 5890's

Everyone knows....well the majority of peeps, that you are never ahead in the PC game. You pay top dollar for gear and you f**ked 3/6/9 mths done the road. Well unless you get exspensive BORING hardware like a PSu or High end case that WILL LAST you.

Thats why its very important to try and SELL you old gear to upgrade....hey I feel over the moon with my GTX295 knowing I got it half price so to speak. Same for the 58xx series I will get it the states. But as god as my witness I will not be suckered into buying gear just from HYPE of media n s**t....thats why I did not get i7 and i5 as the more I read the more you see through the s**t.

However if I was upgrading from and old rig that is different, the i7 920 D0 is a monster but still a tad exspensive....all the same.

I love my i7 920.It is now my all time favorite cpu ive ever owned.But your right.The Core 2 duo and Core 2 Quads are more han enough processing power for any gamer.Your better off getting a good video card than going from say a e8400 / E8500 / E8600 or a Q8200 /Q9300 / Q9450 / Q9650 to an i5 or 17

that's why the best upgrades are the ones that you have 3 or 4 years in between upgrades... build a new system at the end of the main product line.... i.e. Q9XXX which is the end of the Core2 and right before the introduction of Nehalem... Now I think the next best upgrade would be the end of this line before the next wiz bang in arch is introduced...

Well its looking like I will not be getting a 5870 in the STATES....no where has them in stock, that I can walk in and buy them.....FFS.

Only other option is to buy a GTX295 single PCB....and sell my dual PCB version...hassle I know....but by the time I fed up with that (LOL) nvidia might have a DX11 card out...
