I was just messing around with arma2 when i found this amazing thing that was called like 3d resolution. I turned it all the way up just to see what happened(turned anti aliasing, afterprocessiong effects and something else completely off). It ran extremely well and was by far the best looking arma 2 id ever seen. Id show you guys a pic but im afraid to do it again as within a few minutes i noticed a performence decrease and my legs getting warm and feelt the back of the case where the power supply was and it was almsot painful. Almost. Then i feelt the top main gpu and it was just as hot. I dont OC but my case barely fits all of the s**t i have crammed in it.

Immediatly after i went into the catalyst and checked the temp and it was like 78C. Is it possible that there overheating even though im not overclocking at all?

You should take a comparison pic Mike, it would make more sense , since I have no idea what the hell you're talking about lol.

Also, isn't that a normal full load temp for a gpu?

Ok so 75% 3D resolution was what it was before, 200% is what i set it to to have my cards heat up.http://s837.photobucket.com/albums/zz297/Purplehasiso/

I was wondering if 81C was normal aswell...And i have a girlfreind! Her name is Eliska Grygarova.

It's like the Anisotroptic's turned right up. The runway markings and trees look a lot
more sharper. Have you got an ATi card? I can't remember? That's about the temps
I get on my card (air) after hours of continuous gaming. If it gets higher than
that then I'd start to worry.

Tam i have 2 5870s crossfired and they heat up to 81 in a matter of a minutes. Im afraid to see what they would be if i were to keep them at it for any longer.

Your load temps of 81C is within the 5870 specs using the reference ATI cooler. Reference 5870's runs around ~38C idle and up to ~85C at load. And your results will vary with two 5870's in CrossFire as you are dumping the extra heat from the second card into the confines of your case in which your case's airflow will have to deal with.

IMO for my taste.... thats a bit warm but within specs.... in the future, I would suggest either taking a look at your case's airflow and see if you can improve on it by better fans or modding the case for better airflow. OR........ as the aftermarket accessories catches up with this card.... Look into maybe getting a different cooler to install onto your 5870's either by air or water.

By the way..... the newly released Sapphire HD5870 1gb Vapor X contains an non-reference/aftermarket cooler and in testing, it's temperature runs ~35C idle and ~ 60C at load. Now that a full 20C lower at load when compared to the reference cooler !! Oh yeah.... the core is OC's by 20mhz to 870mhz (stock @ 850mhz).... and on top of this, the cooler is quieter than the reference unit.

So all in all.... your within specs..... to make it better, take a look at improving your case's airflow and then look at a different cooling unit for the gpu....

Like I knew lol. You've no specs mentioned

Any GPU will get to that temp within mins depending on how stressing the game is
of course.

Thanks G.G. for the really helpful response! I have an Antec Sonata III 500 and am thinking about getting the Antec Twelve Hundred. I checked that link and i really wish they would have come out sooner as i cant really justify the purchase. Ill keep an eye out for aftermarket coolers. And Tam i just thought you might remember the thread i posted awile ago about what i was getting done and stuff.

So, from this i am getting that 81C is ok to be running at?
