Hi peeps,

So my computer was working fine yesterday, I got up this morning to find that it wouldn't boot up. :(
It cannot be a problem with the PSU as the motherboard lights are on. I've checked all the connections to make sure nothing is loose, everything is fine. I have also tried unplugging everything but still nothing. I've even tried discharging the CMOS data by changing the CCMOS jumper and removing/replacing the button battery and ATX power connectors. Nothing seems to work.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

If you hit the power switch and the lights/fans turn on but the computer doesn't boot, it's likely that your motherboard has failed. If you only see lights but nothing else, your power supply might have failed. Based on my experience and what you're describing, it's one of those components. However, to rule out the possibility of other hardware, you might want to try booting your system with nothing attached and no RAM inserted. If your board beeps, add the RAM back and see if it POSTs. If it does, add components one by one until you get a failure.

It is said that when it comes to life, those who feel see it as a tragedy. Those who think see it as a comedy.

Yes you were right, it was the PSU that has failed, I only got standby lights on the motherboard and no fan movement. I tried to boot with nothing attached and it didn't work. To confirm it was defiantly the power supply I opened it up to find a blown capacitor.

Thanks for your advice! :)
