I have 2 gb ram and I have put windows 7 last week. After that I have found approximate total memory as 830 mb. My PC got lag when big applications are opened such as firefox, games like fifa etc,. 830 mb memory is any problem? How can i reduce that lag?

Windows 7 does require a quite hefty PC to run smoothly without turning off some features. This seems to be your best bet to reduce lag without upgrading. You can find many sites like this on the web if you just do a quick google search, here is a good one for example:

Are you using your computer's integrated video? If so, you may want to consider buying a video card. Windows might be using some of your memory to use with the onboard video and therefore, causing slow preformance.

2GB is enough to run Windows 7 fine, but for some reason your computer isn't recognizing all of it. Are you using 2 sticks of 1GB? If so, make sure that the sticks are properly & securely installed on the motherboard.

Are you saying when you go to Task Manager, it only shows 830MB when you have 2GB installed? Or are you saying Windows 7 is using about 830MB of RAM constantly? Two very different things.

I think the best thing to do is to get a screenshot of your Performance tab, within Task Manager. This way, we can tell exactly what you have for RAM and what the OS is using.

This is an example of what I mean.

You're system's not reduced to 830MB in total. This's what's left from your
2GB when your OS is operational, and using apps running in the background.
Your system looks to be using just over 1200MB or 1.2GB to attain the system
requirements. I have Win7, but not used it that much, but this's about right.

I'll need to boot up my Win7 to have a look at mines.

Is this the reason for the lagging? If so how can i rectify that?

More memory. What are you running 32Bit or 64Bit?
We need your system specs for proper diagnosis.
For firefox, that should never be a problem with the amount of memory left,
For games such as Fifa (not sure of those game specs) but for most games
out today, you need at least 1GB of free memory just to play these games.
But until I can see your system specs, I can't go any further

Can you give me the hardware specs please. This's essential.
If you're not sure what you have, then click on this link to download Everest Free.

http://www.filehippo.com/search?q=everest

From there you can get all the Hardware details, then we can progress.

When games require (for example) 1GB of memory. That's not a requirement
that your system needs, that an amount required "free" from your already running
system.

intel mother board d102ggc2,
processor : dual core
ram : 2gb
hd : 1tb

is this enough? or any other specs needed? in the link u ve given, i cant find that softwre. It says "This product has been discontinued by it's makers"

Really? Never knew that.
If you want to play new games, at least get another 1GB stick of the same
kind of memory you already have. 32Bit will only take 3Gb and no more.
That will improve the system and prevent the lag you are suffering.
The information's still not enough.

You still havent mentioned what you are using for video. Is is integrated or do you have a video card installed? If you don't have a video card I think we'd all suggest you invest in one.

Yeah because videocards tend to allocate part of memory to their own stuffs, so your b0x0r gets r0x0red and you have no available ram. Kinda dumb though wtf. Just make vid cards with 6gigs ram and sell 'em for 100$ :D

Well that's why I asked for specific hardware details. There's no point in arriving
to any form of conclusion when the originator can't even declare the hardware
specs. It's just impossible. There's a 101 things that can be wrong from his limited
offerings. If however he scrutinises his hardware, then it's narrowed down to an
easily resolved situation!

You can switch to Windows 7 Basic to save some memory. Go to preferences and look around, it's somewhere around there. I also have 2gb on Windows 7 and it gave me lag on Crysis, which ran fine with Windows XP and Windows 7 suggested switching the interface to basic which doesn't render Aero and it ran considerably better.

Your video is limiting your gaming preformance. Are you using a laptop? You probably wont be able to upgrade your video, and as you said, your already maxing out your RAM. Only thing left to do is get a new computer.
