your 32-bit OS can only handle about 3GB of ram. Weird that its 2.97 though. Mine says 3.25 usable.

Strange. What BIOS version are you using? I checked and at least one of the BIOS revisions covers a problem where max memory isn't reported correctly.

unfortunately im working with the 64-bit version... and i was told it could handle 125GBs of ram or something ridiculous.

i assume my bios is up to date.

Actually your OS can address 192GiB of memory. And please don't make assumptions. That reads to me like you're saying "I didn't check."

Not sure if this will help but it looked like a good read, check it out at least.

Is it possible you have an onboard graphics processor that may be using some of your RAM? (Though that probably would not account for all 1GB of missing RAM).

edit: Nevermind, didn't see where you listed the motherboard and GPU before.

i have read that as well. and unfortunately my motherboard's bios doesnt have the option to change the memory remapping.

Cody im pretty sure its an issue with your chipset.I maybe wrong but ive seen this before and usally with AMD systems

This is quite disheartening... However. It does give me a rock solid excuse to build a new machine. (Much to the wifes disaproval. /snicker)

I will continue to look into the issue. As to why this chipset is able to hold 4GBs and not be able to use it baffles me. What are u thinking asus?!?

Oh how I feel your pain.... when you bring the topic of upgrading your computer.... you are greated with "why? it still works..." , "why? do you REALLY need to?", "why? isn't it good enough?"...... etc

I can understand if you were doing a upgrade every six months...... but crap.... it's another when you only do it every 3 to 4 years span.... especially if you are sitting at the 4 year mark....

Then it appears this is the issue, time for a new motherboard.

Cody do you have 4x1 gig sticks or 2x2gb sticks? You might need to run 4x1gb sticks being that nvidia's NF4 SLI chipset's(not asus's fault)dont handle 4gb's very well. You might even try bumping up the chipsets voltage to 1.4v or 1.5v.Sometimes that helps with certain issues pertaining to memory

I'm using a i7 975, Asus P6T, 260GTX OC, 6 sticks of CMX6GX3M3A1600C9. sometimes the Pc would boot with 12gb detected but sometimes 10GB or 8GB only. I've lower it's Ram voltage from 1.66v by X.M.P. to 1.64 also tried disable C1E and speedstep. Using W7ultimate 64.Thanks.

Fong I found that on Tom's hardware there's a discussion over the exact same issue. There's a couple of methods to try. Check out cadman_ld's method and see if it works for you.

That's how they roll. They come out with very high potential figures, because most likely nobody will actually try to load a windows 7 machine with 100+ gb ram.
