Okay so I finally got a Q9550, haven't got to install it yet but I will when I wake up in the morning. The Q9550 i ordered from Newegg has E0 stepping. I was wondering how far I should go with the overclocking and what temps are safe. I have a KINGWIN XT-1264 cooler, the fan is facing the rear of the case where I have another 120mm fan for exhaust. I'm currently running a P4 631 3.0ghz @4.0ghz and my cpu temp stays below 42 celsius, and my system @ 34. With the same setup and stock fan I was pushing 60 on the cpu. I've seen cpu-z screen shots where people have overclocked to above 4.0ghz with the same processor. Is this safe, and what would be an ideal temp to keep the cpu under.

Thanks,
John

How far you can go will depend on several factors such as:

1) How far that particular CPU can go
2) How far that motherboard can go
3) How fast your RAM is
4) How good your cooling is

Anything under 65c is alright, though I would not prefer those temps myself - it should be perfectly fine.

IMHO if you know what you doing the very minimum you should expect is 3Ghz....but it would go to 3.5 upwards with the right components...but all chips are different.

I love it. So I timed how long it took to completely startup before the upgrade of the processor and ssd, and it took 2min 17sec. Now I can startup in 27sec. The only problem I had with the drive was that my pc didn't recognize it as a ssd therefore I had to manually disable services. Besides that I think it's the best investment you can make towards computer upgrades right now. I was able to run 4 and 5 installs at a time while setting up the drive. It took me 1hr 20min to do a complete install of windows 7, adobe premiere, office, and about 15 other programs that I use on a daily basis. Oh and my render times for video before were terrible, and now I can render 2 hours of dvd quality video in about 30min. This system screams now.
