I am building an Athlon II AM3 computer and need help with the memory. It seems the DDR3 prices have gone up and will end up being the most expensive component for my setup, but what can you do I suppose. I have been looking on Newegg for basically the cheapest 4gigs I can find and it seems they are all OCZ brand and they seem to have horrible reviews. I am not sure what the tech level is for most of these people reviewing it, but can it really be that bad? OCZ seemed to be a pretty reputable company before and I can't imagine their quality control being this bad. If I don't get OCZ brand it seems the next cheapest one is over 100 bucks which seems steep. I haven't checked other sites yet like ZipZoomFly or microcenter.

I can't really comment on their DDR3 as I haven't used it, but I've used lots of their DDR2 & it's been rock solid.

$100 bucks for 4 gig of DDR3 is actually not bad. if you are willing to spend 20-40 bucks more you can actually get a pretty good set.
make sure you watch the timings, even more so then with DDR2.
it can range from cas 6 - 10. i would not recommend anything over 8, with 8 being decent.
slower kits should have lower timings. cas 8 is good for a 1600 mhz kit.
if you go slower then cas should be lower, if you go higher then cas can be a bit higher.
corsair, g.skill and patriot also make good kits as well as mushkin but OCZ are good too.
i have the dominator GT's and they are awesome.

You can either be part of the problem or be part of the solution.

Check the warranties and find the best that suit you. I use OCZ and their PSU and RAM warranty is top notch. You just have to pay shipping on your side and they'll mail it withing a week or so for free!

RAM prices have gone up. However, I have found good sets for around $105. Look on other sites?
