Maybe this are stupid question.

Girlfriend's lappy (HP dv2500) is slow, and easily confused. Will be upgrading RAM from 1 GB to 2GB later today, which should help of course.

There are only a few updates that aren't installed, but they are not important at all, ie, Office GA notification, dialup modem driver update, etc.

Would it make a difference to install SP1 and SP2 over the current updates? It's my understanding that the SPs are just rollups of the updates anyway so I'm thinking I might be spinning my wheels, but if it would help performance, that would be a Very Good Thing.

Input welcomed.

From what I have seen, SP1 did improve Vista on customers' laptops.

Cool, thanks for the advice. I'll probably do it next Friday so i have the whole weekend to fix it if anything goes wrong.

Yea I've often wondered if this would be ok.
I've now backed up SP1 & SP2 for Vista. And on any future installs, I'll just use those,
rather than spend fooking hours p**sing about over stupid installation periods.
Whatever's not required, the Service Pack will just skip.

....I'm back, but only as a part-timer... :)

Microsoft considers the SP's to almost be their own OS versions... some updates are only available after you have certain SP's installed.

Unless you have some specific technical reason to not install a particular SP you should install them.
