Problem: Lately my PC has been freezing. Typically it'd be when I was doing something pretty intensive, like playing a game. So I thought it was overheating, although it still just freezes everything (and I think overheating causes it to typically crash?) It's been getting warmer outside and in my room, so that's what led me to this conclusion.
However, this morning, I was just watching an online video, that's it, and my PC froze again. However, to my dismay, it wouldn't boot up as it normally does after a freeze. What it does now is that it either:
A. restarts itself after powering up for about 2-3s (before bios loads)
B. freezes Anytime between start of BIOS (could even be in the middle of a word during BIOS startup) through loading Vista and getting to my desktop.
Hardware: (Drivers are pretty current in all)
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300
GIGABYTE GA-965P-DQ6 LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard
OCZ Gold 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) RAM
3 250GB HDDs (1 for OS, 2 for storage, none in RAID)
evga 8800 GTX
740W antec PSU
The reason I thought it was Memory related is because I recently replaced my PSU (about 3 months old), and since it only freezes, it doesn't seem power related. Also, I took out 1 stick of RAM, ran Memtest86 on the other stick, and it passed everything, but when I booted, I only made it to the desktop for about 1min before freezing again. I plugged both sticks back in, and it would just revert back to A usually, although sometimes after several quick restarts, it would run but not load the BIOS, it would just show a blank screen but keep running.
I've been working on this for about 12hours now, sometimes waiting almost 2hours between restart attempts.
If anyone has anything else for me to attempt (Could it be my PSU?) then please let me know. I took it to my school's walk-in helpdesk, but they had no clue. They tested the PSU and it appeared healthy, but they didn't know what else it could be. The mobo doesn't have any blown (at least any visibile) capacitors. I've tried unhooking all the cables and replugging everything back in. Running out of ideas.
Edit: It runs fine in BIOS. Left it running in that state for over an hour. Booted to Windows, freeze. It's been working fine for 3 years (besides the PSU going out about 3 months ago).
