So I have a perplexing (for me) problem. I just got a replacement battery for my old Gateway laptop. The machine will operate on battery. However, the red light is on when the AC adapter is plugged in, which is supposed to indicate the battery is not charging, but I think it is charging. The tray shows charging for about 3 seconds, then switches to indicating the machine is running on AC. When I run the machine on AC and unplug the adapter, the machine turns off instead of running on the battery.

I have no idea how this is even possible. Many thanks for any help you can give.

Go into theBIOS when you are charging it up to see if it says it is charging from in there, but it looks likeyour battery may be gone, Laptop batterys are a pain which is why you only get a years cover on them, I know with Dell even if you take extra cover you battery is still only covered for a year.
