Funny though I've been reading the user reviews on Gamespot and the ones that actually made a reasonable review and actual;ly describe the positives and negatives have given it a not so "perfect RTS" score. Of course there's a lot of 10 but the reviews suck and are clearly fanboyz.

According to the reviews I've read the camera angle can't be change nor zoomed, which to me is a must since I hate that crappy angle that warcraft III also suffered from. The Multiplayer from what I've read didn't change anything, according to the reviewers it was the same exact thing. People have said that "If it ain't broke don't fix it" but to me it clearly speaks out against blizzard quality. Also, I read this only includes one campaign? Seems to me that their merge with Activision has made them greedy as hell!

I will still wait for the official reviews and then decide if it's worth buying, seriously if the multiplayer is the exact same thing as the first game then by all means I'll buy the battlechest instead. One campaign and a non innovative Multi-player isn't worth $60 to me.

i almost bought it last night... but i didn't cuz i still havent played the first one...

RTS's are gettin too damn complicated these days. Too much detail and too much things to do at once. Makes an OCD person like myself freak out.

What ever happened to the nice and simple RTS's like Age of empires (I and II) and Warcraft (only played the first one, but my brother still plays the 3rd religiously). Does anyone play these anymore? (Other than P!RATE, these games are the only ones his PC can run). ;)

The last RTS I played was Outpost 2:

Gets boring in short order for me. I'll stick with first-person shooters. :_)

I tried to play starcraft 2...

I always play the single player before skirmishes. I gave up on it after a few levels. It isnt like c&c generals (best rts ever).

Later i will try some skirmishes and it might change my mind, or at least help my opinion on the game. But i feel that my time can be better spent anywhere else.

Now C&C it's an RTS I;ve been meaning to get back into. The one with the normal soldiers not the futuristic kind, although I;ve read it's good. C&C and Age of Empires were my first RTS and I'm fond of them.

I have it, it's a great game and has an excellent UI, but I don't think it deserves the amazing scores its been getting from just about everyone.

Combat in the Dawn of War games is much more detailed and satisfying, also I can't see why the massive diversity in the single player units isn't expanded to the multiplayer...

Edit: Just read Meats first post. Although there's only one campaign, it has 30(ish) missions all of which are pretty diverse, take place in a number of different environments and the story telling to back it up is excellent. You get to play as the Terrans and Protoss in it as well as far as I have got. As a single player game, it's excellent. I wouldn't know how different the MP is from the original, I played it like.. once.

As for the camera angle, you can zoom in and out no problem at all, its just the angle which you can't really change. "Delete" and "Insert" flip the camera through 90 degrees to either left or right, but as soon as you let go of these buttons it goes back to the default angle. It'd be better with a full 360 degree camera, like DoW.

Generals was a fantastic RTS, dont get me wrong, BUT I like the Starcraft 2 campaign a whole lot better than any other RTS ive played because its more interactive and in depth than "Lets go here and kill these guys" And the mission in it are just about all unique which gives it good variety. It's true you cant scroll out and in but the only time i needed was with a massive 28 ship squad haha.

Well Korny, have a nice, warm cup of f**k you. :P

Actually, best RTS ever made is Rise of Nations with the Patriots Expansion, great graphics for an older game and great in depth technologies and strategies that Empire Earth and AoE-III completely failed to capture.

I liked Rise of Nations but never played the expansions. I loved that you could throw nukes and all that.

I've always wanted to play Sins of a Solar Empire but everytime I tend to buy it I get scared.

Rise of Nations w/ Patriots was pretty sick, loved some LAN gaming with that game.

Also Age of Mythology is a good one too.

That last mission for the Protoss Crystal flashback is INSANE!!!! Jesus christ! Kill over 1500 Zerg and then fight to the death?!?!?! I was like "Holys**t this is CRAZY" the entire mission, you just keep getting every last Protoss with the most intense units.

That is now my favorite mission so far, before it was the Day and Night zerg mission where you need to destroy the buildings during the day and defend your base at night.

What difficulty are you doing it on? I found those missions easyish - racked up about 1850 kills on the last stand one :D

Only doing it on normal though...

Worth the money buy falls way short of being a classic IMHO.

A friend gave me a card that would let me try SC2 for 7 hours... Ive played a couple skirmishes and honestly the game feels dated. You can't zoom out far enough, selecting a group of units in your base grabs the SCV's AND the fighting units instead of just the fighting units, and the maps feel a bit too small. Maybe its because I haven't really spent enough time with the game to really learn it, and maybe its becuase I don't have any lingering nostalgia from the first game (i never played it). But I much prefer Supreme Commander or Rise of Nations.

That's the same issue I've been reading from a lot of player reviews. According to them the multiplayer is the same thing, they didn't change a thing.

I played the demo of Supreme Commander and holys**t! If you have a big monitor you;re in for a treat. I loved that you could divide the screen into 2 parts and the zoom out is insane.

The one game that I want to learn how to play seriously is Dawn of War II, I played a couple of MP matches and I wanted to cry on how difficult everything is. Squad management is way too hard for me.
