hey guys, im sitting and pondering over whether to get a gigabyte ultra durable gtx 460 716mhz core, or a Zotac GTX470 standard clock.
the thing is the gtx 470 is only 30 dollars more.. ive been reading up about zotac, and alot of review pages been saying that they are a well established country that offer lifetime warranty as long as u dont tamper with the product..
im wondering, how good is the gtx460? i like that gigabyte has the ultra durable thing on it, and it seems like a oc dream, but i mean, 30 dollars extra for the 470, which people seem to be ocing up to 480 as well?
I know the 470's hot and uses alot of power, i got a OCZ powerxstream pro 600 watt with 50 amp on the 12v rails on it, so im not worried about that... for me im thinking the extra memory, bandwidth and processing cores will prove more long lifed, especially when drivers have really matured and when Crysis 2!!! comes out..
I play BFBC2 alot, crysis 2 when it comes out, far cry 2, just cause 2, tf2, basically alot of shooters.
What do u guys think? id love to hear the pros and cons that u have to input. Im looking for performance in the long run and to last me a long time, since i dont have too much money anymore to constantly upgrade gpus like i did before..
Hehe oki, 470 it is then.. yea i know, it has a 8 + 6 pin connector, the 8 pin can turn into 6 pin.. well i read the reviews for it and it seemed like a very good psu, so ill stick to that, plus i already bought it..
what can i do about cooling for the 470 then? i heard replacing the thermal paste was a good idea..
Damnit, was gonna get the 470 today but they said it hadnt come in yet, and probably wont be in til wednesday, so i guess i got some more waitin til then, they promised me theyd reserve one for me for sure.. also, i heard that air flow in the chassi for a 470 is crucial.. i have a pci slot fan, but this one is special in the sense that it has 2x80mm fans built into it, almost looks like a graphic card itself, but it pushes a pretty good amount of air.. it has no vent, but uses the air inside the case.. should i use it? Remember i got a chassi with a 250mm side fan, so i dont think ventilation is a problem? If i use this pci fan, wheres the optimal place to insert it, 1 or 2 slots away?
I don't know what everyone bitches about with the GTX 470/480 with regard to heat... it exhausts out the case... Just put the card in a place where it can suck relatively fresh air (like in the path of your front intake fan) and call it good. It will clock down to 50MHz when in windows and will clock up and run the fan a bit higher when you're gaming although your speakers should drown out most of this anyway. The thermal paste is fine its not really going to make a substantial difference anyway if you're putting the same cooler back on.
im not really worried about heat at all, i just wanna keep the 470 as cool as possible.. and since i have a good case for it im not really worried.. but figured maybe the temps would help if i put that pci fan underneath it, to direct the 250mm side fan and push the air straight up into the gpus fan intake.. i think it would work?
Dont know mothow, i cant remember.. maybe if u can find the thread?
well i really hope my card comes in, i ordered one on wednesday last week when there was 121 left, and theyre stating on the page that theres none left in stock, so im hopin that they just got bought up quick and im still on the list for one.. otherwise ima be p**sed for them having me get my hopes up like this!!
I hope it comes soon.I know how it feels waiting on new parts.Im sure you will enjoy the card.I need a higher reloution monitor for mine.In some of the games im playing im getting 700FPS lol at 1680x1050
