Hey guys. i'm trying to rebuild an older Pavilion a6200n at work. that includes removing vista and putting XP on there. problem is, since the computer was originally shipped with vista, hp see's it appropriate not to offer any XP drivers on their website.

i found this link: http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?t...Id=1174663

and followed the second posters instructions, using the drivers he listed. my Pavilion didn't recognize ANY of them. so now i'm back to square one with a fresh install of XP lacking LAN, chipset, graphics and sound drivers. anyone have any tips??

thanks!

The only things that i can suggest is to try to find out what each component is,(who made lan and model # etc). Then look through http://www.driverguide.com/ or go to the manufacturer and see if it is still listed.

HP is not the manufacturer, so since it isn't listed there hopefully one of the older driver sites would have it. Driversheaven i think is another one.

Also, if possible, win 7 would most likely have all the drivers and use less resources then vista.

I absolutely agree with the win 7 recommendation. The reason i'm having to use XP is we have an HP all-in-one printer/scanner/fax that will only scan to drivers that run on XP. according to HP tech support they don't currently support scanning to win 7.

I found a program called Radar Sync that claims to be able to scan the hardware and find the corresponding driver automatically. i think i'm going to tether the PC to my EVO just to get internet and try this route.

Michael,

I have a better solution..... and this will bring you more up to date with both software and hardware.

1. Load the system with Win 7.

2. Replace the current All-in-one with a new unit...

Ok..... now you are saying.... why? My All-in-One is working just fine.....ummm under XP OS that is...

Here is a deal for you.....

This week only.... At Office Depot, they have a HP All-in-One (2009 model) on sale. Retail price is 299.00. The lowest sale price I have seen this product was around 225.00 for the past year... This week only, this All-in-One is on SALE for 149.99... AND.... if you bring in a old printer as a "Trade-in" for recycle, they will give you and extra 50.00 instant... This makes the HP All-in-One priced at 100.00 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/762995/HP-Photosmart-Pre...ax-All-In/

So run down to your local Office Depot and check it out.

If you go this route, you dont need to worry about old drivers... you'll have the lastest OS and a much newer All-in-One with the latest drivers.. Much more supportable..
