Well, still no EVGA X58 FTW's so fook them. They need to get their act together asap.
Moving on, I can confirm that I have now chosen my new hardware which'll be on the
1366 x58. As far as I am concerned - after much research, the 1366 is still a force to be
reckoned with. The P55 I don't like and I am not hanging around waiting for Sandy Bridge
whilst I have the notes in the bank right now. There's no time like the present...

Mother Board:- Asus Rampage III Extreme Intel X58 1366 Motherboard

CPU:- Intel Core i7 950 Bloomfield 45nm, 3.06 GHz

RAM:- Corsair Dominator GT 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 16000C8 2000MHz Triple Channel Kit

This RAM's the shiz, OC'd to 2000MHz +
I could go for the 12GB kit, but this's currently not in stock.

The monitor can wait. I will also be getting a new case. I don't want this skyscraper
Thermaltake Mozart any more. So will get a new case in the next few weeks.
This'll be ordered tomo, and will be with me for Tuesday. Won't have time to build until
the weekend or weekend after that.

Other bits n bobs such as new watercooling, etc will be within next few weeks.
Once done, that's gonna do me for 3-4 years.

Feel free to add you comments, etc..

Cheers Tam...

After having my 3 recent asus boards work for 1 - 1.5 years each before dying, I only trust GBT nao.

Granted, all were with ample overclocking..

Lol Meats!

Soviet, this Motherboard is the creme de la creme. I am an overclocker enthusiast, and after
careful consideration and research I felt this MoBo to is the one for me. I've has ASUS
motherboards since 2002, and I have had no problems with the hardware, although I've
had problems with the dire service that ASUS procures, but that was a minor incident
in the past. The EVGA was my main choice, but overall, the Rampage III was something
i'd wanted from the start, but the price I was grudging. However, after a few hours of
researching, I find this MoBo a total gem. If the EVGA FTW was in stock now, I still would
have opted for this - and probably regretted it later. Who knows.

The Rampage has all the overclocking capabilities I need and far more. All the reviews
are outstanding. There's not one bad thing about this board. It's an enthusiasts dream.
I am looking forward to tinkering with this bad boy. There was one gripe about this MoBo
actually (GURU3D) and that was about the Gigabit LAN Port - and that was because
there's only ONE! But that doesn't bother me lol.

i wouldn't go with the REIII. it's not all that great, in fact i hear a lot of people complaining about it and end up returning it. i would look at the UD7 although i am no friend of gigabyte.
the P6X58D line is even a better option. other then that you could get your hands on a cheap used classified now or wait for the FTW or have someone here ship it to you.

You can either be part of the problem or be part of the solution.

Tam,

You really should check this mobo out.....its the REAL DEAL

Asus P6X58D-E

The mobo you ordered It a cracker of a MOBO no doubt....Asus all the way for a XTREME CLOCKED RIG.
I would only ever buy an ASUS mobo TBH.....Tam did you consider the GENE Rampage, Its an m-ATX but a UBER good board. Maybe not the best for multiple GPUs but a killer board.

The Gigabyte boards have improved a hell of alot but I dont like them after I had numerous ones fail on me where as I only ever had one ASUS fail on me in all my time building.

I still think you should have waited (LIKE ME) for the Sandybridge CPUs to build a new rig but enjoy man its gonna be a killer rig.

i5 2500K @ 4.8Ghz- Corsiar H50 WaterCooler- Coolermaster Realpower 1000w- Asus P8P67 Deluxe - Asus 6990 4GB - 8GB Corsair DDR3 2000Mhz - X-Fi Sound - 7.1 Surround Speakers - BenQ 24" TFT - G9x Mouse- G19 Keyboard

Nah mate, I now REALLY want this Asus Rampage III. It's the dogs bollocks! I did check
out the ATX, but I have two GTX480's that I will be using once I decide to buy a monitor
to suit.

Well.... I still think you all should have waited like me to upgrade when SSD's become the norm and Larraby becomes a reality.

Plug man, you've upgraded over the last year and a bit. I haven't. I've not had a single
upgrade since 2007. I have the money now. I might not have that money when Sandy
bridge comes along. If I were to wait on Sandy, I'd be waiting forever and everytime a new
socket comes out. Nehalem was supposed to be like what Sandy bridge is supposed to be.
It's a joke tbh.I'm sure I can clock this CPU on the Genie III to 4.50Ghz no problem and
more. I'll get Sandy bridge or what ever's next when the time's right for me.

For what I've got, I'm more than delighted

You can wait till Q1 2011 Tam....the GPU will more then tide you over. I did not upgrade per say....My GPU went belly up and I only had to add 100 bucks to get the 5970 and I built a PC for a mate and sold him my C2D and got a quad on his money....lol.

So the only thing I upgraded was the H50 water cooler....I feel like I have not bought a thing in AGES.

But I tell you this I wanted to upgrade alot when all the i7's where out and I did not and I like to think I am justifed in doing so....but when I do get the new Sandy and GPU I will not be upgrading again for a good few years. Kinda like Intel and the TICK TOCK.....

>> Re: New Build Finally
I'll bide my time. I mean is there REALLY going to be that much difference at this stage?
Even the iCores are more than enough for what's on offer just now. What is the benchmarks
going to be like in comparison? Not much I bet - only for stuff like video editing & all that
sort of stuff. In the 2nd half of next year, there'll be some other new core roadmap on the
horizon. You can never keep up with it. Like I said, I'm well happy with what I have.
Fyi, the Rampage was out of stock yesterday - but in stock today, so will have all my parts
tomorrow.

More fyi Plug, Christmas is around the corner, Dallas trip planned also, and a whole lot more,
so this is why i can justify my build right now. These sandy bridge cores should have been
out months ago. Intel can only blame themselves!!!

Also I am going for that newer Corsair Water Cooling Kit - since I am reverting back to
a normal case, the cooling system I currently have in the Mozart Case is just too much.
Still deciding which case to get - if anyone can start suggestions?
