I found it incredible that of the spate of new articles on China now likely formally taking the world's fastest supercomputer title in a few days, only ONE of the articles mentioned that China also plans to be directly competing against Intel and AMD CPUs in just a few years.

THAT is the more important story.

That's a game-changer in several arenas.

I read about the supercomputer on Yahoo news. But they planning to compete against Intel and AMD is new to me. That would certainly push technology forward in an effort of serious competition where Intel could be matched or even surpassed we might start living in an era of awesome advances for Pc hardware.

Intel announced the opening of its first ever chip manufacturing facility in Asia on Tuesday, in Dalian, China.

The completion of the Dalian factory raises Intel's investment in China to $4.7 billion,

The company estimated that two dozen other companies have already directly invested in Dalian to position themselves to do business with Intel, while the company has already started doing business with 80 existing suppliers in Dalian.

I remember when due to national security issues it was illegal to export 80286/287 technology to China...

Now many western defense programs are dependent on China for weapon systems materials and components.

They dont make/design their own...... my little cousins are going to reverse engineer that stuff i.e. bootleg it

that is why you are going to be able to buy a Chinese made 8 core Bulldozer in a ziplock bag for 10.00 bucks..

And the only way they will do that is reverse engineering what is before them, and that super computer that China made, was with the help of Nvidia Video Cards leading the way and CUDA!
