hello all,

I need to down(?)grade this computer from Vista to XP. I have the XP disk and key. the thing is, I need/want to sort-of reinstall XP over the Vista installation so as to keep already installed programs.

I have never faced this situation but I feel Vista will not allow me to install a "lower" OS.

Am I right? Can it be done? How? Any way to trick Vista?

Thanks in advance,

Not sure why you would want to do that... Fully patched Vista with SP2 is a good OS.

anyway, to answer your question no, I don't think this is possible... Even if it does work your programs are not going to work because none of the necessary registry entries will not carry over from Vista to XP.
