I am having an odd problem. I am fixing a computer for a friend.

OS: MS Windows Vista Home x64

This OS version comes with 2 IE7's or IE8's in my case as it has been updated.
The IE8 x64 works fine but as we all know is not supported by Flash. My friend like to play flash supported gamed even against my recommendation.
The IE8 x86 can not resolve any website .. any. i even tried the with no add ons, nothing.
i tried uninstalling and reinstalling, tried upgrading to IE9 and downgrading to IE7.
i tried to reset the winsock via MS fix it.
the diagnostic comes back with saying that it can not find any problems with the connection.

any other ideas?

You can either be part of the problem or be part of the solution.

Educate him. His life will be so much easier!

After all, to a normal user, the end result is really no different. Same features (well more in FF) and better compatibility and speed compared to IE 7 & 8.

meh, he is a hard head. i'd rather fix the problem then to continue arguing with him.
the problem effects windows update as well so eventually this has to be fix or i'd rather it be.

You can either be part of the problem or be part of the solution.
