Fellow Forum Members,
I have just built a new system with a Windows 7 64 bit OEM installed. I need to change the motherboard out and install a new one with better features. Will I be able to transfer my Windows 7 OEM license to my new built that uses a different motherboard? Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Yes I believe you can as long as the serials aren't being used in two computers then it should work fine. What can happen is that since you changed motherboard the serial won't work but there should be an option to activate by telephone and then you call tech support and the issue will be resolved, at least it was like this with Windows XP. I must have called like 4 times in a year and the process is pretty quick and painless.

Thanks Meats,
I too did the same thing several times with my Windows XP license. However, I'm asking this because I loosely remember reading somewhere that things changed for Windows 7 regarding license transfers. Anyways, I'm going to try it out nevertheless. Thanks.

yeah it should work. I had Windows 7 on my netbook, removed it and then installed it on a PC I built to sell on eBay. I used the phone activation and it worked no problem.

If you have issues, the typical thing is to say that your motherboard busted and you couldn't replace it with the same model.
