Dang I think you're right man, Intel just has too many resources. I read about a new 3D transistor design they invented in which they stack up the transistor in a more compact way or so I understood from the explanation. It will supposedly make cpu's even smaller, consume less power and will yield more dies in a single waffer.

Here's what I read:

Competition is a good thing alrite....but there has not been competition with CPUs since the AMD San Diego/Venice chips.

Soooooo...anyone think we might see a price drop on AMDs in a bit to try to preserve market share?

Even if Bulldozer comes out a good performer I don't think it will overcome Intel's sandy bridge, maybe it will give Core i7 a run for its money.

Bulldozer is a waste of time.... when it does come out, its usefullness will be regulated to the lowend grandma pc along side with the Pentium IV.

Mark my words, Bulldozer will be competitive with Sandy Bridge, and faster in some applications.

Intel will hold the ultra high end with Ivy bridge, but €200 for a processor that will perform most likely 80% of a processor costing €800 is a good thing.

Ivy Bridge will replace the high end Core i7's.

One of the good things about Bulldozer, is it being able to use sAM3 (from certain manufacturers). Of course if you want to go for it, you can get an AM3+ board in the meantime, and then get a Bulldozer when released.

AFAIK second week in June for launch.

There's absolutely no disputing that Intel has massive Research and Development muscle, but I wouldn't be counting AMD out just yet Mothow (Going by your 1st post).

From what I've learned, AMD has designed the Bulldozer architecture for future expandability and massive integration. Though I have to admit, Bulldozer is quite complex in design, and will need some detailed tweaking to get it up and running the way it was meant to via design projections.

Mark my word, Phenom II was meant to complete with Intel's Core i7 and bellow where as Bulldozer despite its minor delays over the past several months/years was meant to compete with anything newer by Intel.

This time around, Bulldozer needs to be much better than AMD's Hammer Core of the past to make a dent in this CPU industry…And I believe it will surprise many people in how well it will perform IMO.
