Sony Vaio, model VGN-CR410E
Windows Vista SP2
Intel Duo CPU T5550 @ 1.83GHz
3 GB RAM
32-bit
Crashes randomly, usually when using a browser (with either firefox or Chrome) and when I do a malware scan.

When I restart there are no problems.

Any insights, remedies?
Thanks

Restart your computer:
If your laptop is suffering from freezing then all running programs might be blocked. You might not be able to move your mouse around the screen. To solve this problem you must restart your computer. It is the freezing problem that makes all programs and utilities inoperable. Restarting your computer is one of the ways to fix and diagnose the problem
.
Install free antivirus program:
The most common problem of laptop freezing is the presence of computer viruses. In order to recover from this problem you should download a free antivirus program like AVG to scan your computer and get rid of the threat. Installing free antivirus programs is also useful in protecting your system form viruses.

Defragment your hard drive:
The process defragment your hard drive manages all files in the computer and takes the files that might have been displaced and puts them back where they are supposed to be. For defragmentation, select defragmentation tool from 'System tool' section and you need to click 'defragment' to begin this process. This process also consumes time.
