Anyone know any tricks for shutting down the speed step on my 8400.I have everything disabled. I've got it clocked to 3.6 but it keeps going back to 2.4 and the multiplier at 6 FSB400 (ouch!). I don't like that crap. I don't want it stepped. The latest board (that can't overclock this cpu worth as**t) is an MSI P45 Neo. The ASUS P5Q was running that cpu at 4 gigs (fsb440 x9 with a v core of 1.275v. This damn thing has to go to 1.4v to get stable at 3.6gigs (fsb400 x9).

also, in the windows power option, set to performance mode instead of balanced or power saving

You can either be part of the problem or be part of the solution.

Ya I really am, Tom. I sent this board (the MSI) back today. Needed a V Core jump to 1.4v to run it at 3.6 stable. Never did get the SpeedStep disabled. And yes I got all the right stuff disabled and updated the bios etc etc. And I found a cheap P5Q so if that one is working I know I can use it. It's the same as the original mobo I been trying to replace. Was running the same CPU at 4.0 at 1.275. That's a crazy difference. They are both P45 chipsets. Meanwhile I think I have like 96 cents to last the rest of the month while waiting on the returns.
