When I try to turn on my 10 year old's laptop, the power light turns green for a second, I hear a beep, and then everything turns off. Have tried cleaning the battery, turning it on without the battery, and same thing happens. When I try turning it on the battery light at the front of the laptop turns red. Any help greatly appreciated.

Remove and reinstall your ram.

If that doesn't work, your, you're cpu may be over heating from old thermal paste.

I hope others will give you some other input on where to go from here.

Went on another forum and saw the same suggestion. Tried it but was unsuccessful. Also tried taking out battery, disconnecting power cord, and holding down power button for a minute. Reconnected everything, and computer still didn't start up again. Each time I try to start it, the battery button at the front of the computer is red, the power button is green for a second and I get one short beep.

Is there a way to reset "cmos" on the laptop?
This resets all of the motherboard settings to factory default.
