I have a pc i built about 5 years ago and it suddenly wont boot at all, no power nothing. I have replaced power supply with brand new one and power cord, still nothing. I am assuming it's the motherboard, I have been having issue's with the pc not booting correctly for about 3 months. If it was any other piece inside pc wouldn't I still get power? I mean no fans, nothing. I also thought maybe it was the case, it's not that old and it's an antec with about 6 fans, it was really nice when I bought it. Could it just be a switch on the case. I do still get a light on the motherboard but couldn't remember if the cmos battery lights that up, it's been awhile.

The LED is not powered by the battery.

If the info from that link (and its reference links) doesn't help, you can search in the HWA search bar on terms like [ system debug ] [ power debug ] [ POST debug ] etc for more debugging tips or details (e.g. how to determine if your power on/off button and cable assembly is working right or even bypass it entirely...the "paper-clip" method)

Ha, I have done that paper clip method years ago and it's great, I just cannot get my big hands in there, have been to lazy to take everything out of the case. Thanks

I remember the paper clip method also if you suspect the case wiring is faulty you can use a flat head screwdriver to tap the powerswitch pins so the motherboard turns on, this will rule out if the case its faulty. Search your manual which little pins are the ones for power.

Just in case you need Visual Assitance:

Just wanted to update because I hate when guys ask a question and want instant gratification and never answer back if they don't get it. I finally got around to building my pc outside the case and it was the case causing the no start issue, I used screwdriver across pins and she started right up with no issues. Thanks to those who responded. Looks like it's time for a new case.

I have to say i'm dissapointed, I had an antec 900 and all the fans stopped working over the 2 years I had it and now it's not working at all, thought a case of this caliber would have lasted longer. My sons cheap dynex from Best Buy has been going for 10 years without a hitch just keep updating the parts. Peace and Happy Holidays

Well, may be you don't need to discard the whole case, just because of a faulty power switch. A few bucks of supplies from a local "pop and son's electrical supplies store" or Radioshack, if there's one, may be able fix your switch problem. Just need a bit of electrician skills, involving soldering, multimeter and such. ;)

is there any LED on the mobo?

check the PC case power on button.
I would also suggest the following:
look for the dmamaged capacitor on the mobo.
reseat the CPU
reseat teh PSU connector to the mobo and check the PSU itself.

Hope this helps.
