Hi Experts

Client of mine has bought his notebook ASUS U31S with external DVD drive yesterday and he asked me to install windows 7 ultimate (origin was windows 7 home edition) beside other operating system Linux and Solaris.

I divided the 500 GB hard disk but didn't touch the hidden partition that has recovery.

I formatted the C partition that had windows 7 home edition and install a fresh copy of windows 7 ultimate,,,,,the process was smooth , first restart asking about username and computer name , password,,,etc ,,,,but with the second restart, PC kept rebooting without completing the windows installation.

Although I have used the same widnows 7 CD for his other new laptop and the installation went smooth without any problem.

I tried different media same problem.

This laptop does have an external DVD driv, of course it is an LG and brand new

What could be the cause of this issue ?

Regards

First of all, you could have just do an upgrade install instead of formatting / clean install. It's only a small upgrade from Win7 Home to Win7 Ultimate. And it's much safer that way, especially when you have other OS's and partitions around.

Secondly, when you say the PC keeps rebooting, make sure it's not just because the Win7 install disc is still in the DVD drive. You should remove it, once the disc installation part is completed. The second part of the installation does not require the disc to be there.

If removing the disc does not stop the rebooting, there are multiple possibilities that could cause the problem. It could be that your Win7 install disc is no good. It's not unusual to have a corrupted image of the installation disc, especially if you download it and burn it into a disc yourself. It could be that you need additional mass storage drivers, during the install. It could be that you need to adjust some BIOS settings, such as disabling hard drive password protection and/or some other settings.

Good luck.
