  Diablo 3 Beta Impressions

I have been in the Diablo 3 beta for some time now, and I would like to hear what rational people (not blizzard forum tools) think about the game so far. I realize and take into acount the beta is a very small portion of the full game.

I've maxed out and beaten the beta on all of the classes except the wizard. My favorites classes go in order of Monk>Barbarian>Witch Doctor>Demon Hunter, the monk being my favorite.

I think the graphics are okay, nothing special in my opinion. The lighting is nice, textures seem standard at best, character models look a bit low poly for what I'd expect. The mob death animations are great. I really like the hand painted character avatars. And from what I've seen the armor models are not great, but this will change in higher levels I'm sure.

The sound design is fantastic, every slash of a barbs axe or thump of a monks fist sounds incredible. The music is the classic Diablo theme of the previous games, I love the New Tristram town music. The world music is decent, very ambient, not as memorable as Diablo 2's in my opinion. The voice acting is top notch.

The game play is absolutely stellar. You feel incredibly powerful. The skill system is great, enabling you to change out skills on the fly with a mild cool-down (no more running to town to change skills out, in the latest patch). The skills themselves are unique and fun to use. The crafting system is intuitive and rewarding. They have made some changes to give purpose to merchants and artisans alike. Each piece of armor appears on your character. The rune system is not in the beta yet, but that is sure to bring a lot of customization to each character.

The lore is great, I think it's turning into Blizzards best story line yet in their franchises. I highly recommend picking up The Book of Cain, a good summary of the events up until Diabo 3 and really fleshes out the characters. Blizzard went back and rewrote some of the lore from the first game as canon to make it all fit together, seeing that Diablo 1 wasn't entirely Blizzards creation.

All-in-all I think it's shaping up to be the best game Blizzard has developed to date, and it's my most anticipated game of 2012.

I'm a little preoccupied about the whole auction house thing and how that will affect online play. Is this game supposed to be an MMO where you'll see people running around the dungeons and whatnot? I never played the originals online so I don't know the mechanics.

Also, does the game gets boring after a while or are the spells and difficulties enough to make you want to keep exploring? Also, is the explorable content good or is it repeatable.

Everything I write is Sarcasm.

The Auction House is definitely going to play a role in the online game. I have faith that Blizzard will not allow it to get out of hand. It's all optional and since the game is PvE focused it shouldn't matter if someone paid real money for all their gear or not. There is PvP but Blizzard has officially said it will not be balanced and they have no intention of trying to balance it to the level of Starcraft or even WoW. The PvP aspect is just for fun.

I do not foresee the game getting boring over time. The whole idea of Diablo is to play through multiple times gearing up your characters and beating the game on harder and harder difficulty levels with a group of friends. There is so much gear to collect, builds to try, bosses to beat, levels to achieve, crafting etc I don't think replay value is even in question.

I believe it will be 4 player co-op instances. This is how multiplayer was in the previous games as well, 4 player instances. It is not an MMO style where everyone is active in the same instance of the world. You will not see people you are not grouped with in your game(s).
