Hello,

I'm trying to upgrade a friend's PC from XP to Windows 7. It is a Dell OptiPlex Gx620. Everything original except I added another 1GB of RAM for total of 2GB. He had so many (bad) viruses that I couldn't clean it up with any of the virus software I knew of.

So I just wiped the drive and reinstalled XP. So far so good. He wanted to upgrade to Win7 so we got the Win7 Home Premium upgrade DVDs for 32bit.

Problem is

The dvd drive recognizes

I think just a bit more is needed here re "the problem is..."?

Also, when you "wiped" the drive that was contaminated with "...so many (bad) viruses...." did you use a self-booting non-Windows tool to ensure everything bad was eliminated, and then reformatted and re-partitioned again using a non-Windows tool...or did you just use a Windows format?

Ha. I started that post but figured it out and thought I just canceled out of it.

The problem was that the drive would read CDs but not DVDs. Swapped it out with another drive and it worked fine.

OK. Thanks for clearing it up.

You might consider editing the title of your thread to something like,

"Bad Post...Can Ignore"

so it doesn't show up in someone's future HWA subject searches on keywords "repeater" or "wireless"
