I installed office 2010 on windows XP SP3. But the excel has problem. Sometimes when i click on save button, the worksheet closes without saving what I had entered OR else shows error while saving: Errors were detected while saving ******.xlsx Microsoft excel may be able to save the file by removing or repairing some features. To make the repairs in a new file, click continue. To cancel saving the file, click Cancel.

Can someone please help me that what's wrong?

.
If this isn't an already identified problem with Office2010 (check the Office2010 fora)...

Some ideas...
To ID possible complex hardware-software and software-software interactions you might check your HDD(s) health with some prolonged read tests and non-destructive write tests (ID storage subsystem problems), check the SMART attributes (ID internal disk problems), etc. If the HDDs are OK, then disable any write caching. See if error continues. If your data are stored on a specific drive, try moving to another drive for a while and see if error continues.

Also, if the problem has been occurring only after you've "re-awakened" the system from a hibernate or suspend...you might try disabling those features. Same with HDD power management...turn it OFF at the OS level (control panel) try again and if continues then turn it off at the disk level (using an appropriate disk tool...e.g. HDDscan, ftool, etc)...see if problem disappears.

I've seen a number of "hard to explain" so-called application errors occur over the years that are profoundly influenced by system and device power management interactions.

Thanks for replying John. I think your guess of hardware software incompatibility issue might be causing the problem but I am using the software on newly purchased desktop computer and I have not used hibernate option in it.

Can you please refer any parameter on SMART test which may indicate problem with hard disk cache or some such parameters which might be causing problems?

The main thing is that I am facing such problem with excel 2010 only and not with word & powerpoint.

Hello Manik,

Are you using the MS Office 2010 lite version? I mean is it the free version of available software. I used the same and faced similar problems. After every free version download, almost after 24 hours, my Windows OS used to go for start up repair and used to delete the Ms Office 2012 software.

After repeated installations from three sources, it got accepted and from then on it did not create any problems. But since you got a PowerPoint on your 2010, i donít think so it is just a lite or basic version. So, please go for MS office support and seek their help on this issue. May be the software needs some critical updates for some office files?

Check out for microsoft updates and i am sure that the download of some critical updates will solve your problem.
