Well, I'm potentially building a new system of my own (just need that damn wife approval). I am a firm believer of more eyes being better than a single pair. Does anyone see any obviously bad choices, parts that could be swapped for roughly the same price, or places to shave off a few bucks?

Case: NZXT Apollo Black SECC Steel Chassis ATX Mid Tower
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3L
CPU: Intel i5 750
RAM: g.Skill 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600
GPU: XFX Radeon HD 5770 1GB
PSU: Corsair CMPSU-650TX 650W Ethusiast Series
HSF: XIGMATEK Dark Knight with i5 bracket kit

I'm not in need of drives, keyboard, mouse, or other peripherals, as they will be coming over from my old system.

I should probably include my usage information. I use my system primarily for WoW, but also play some games on the side (currently Mass Effect 3 and Left 4 Dead 2). I might also be doing some video capture and editing in the future, but I expect it its capable of the above it shouldnt be an issue.

Is there any particular reason why you choose that motherboard? Is that because you need the PATA IDE connector for your existing drives? It's in short supply in many places. The one you listed in Amazon is way over priced at $199.99 USED. The mobo does not have USB 3 either.

i would go with something like this

Case: Antec Three Hundred - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129042
Mobo: ASUS Maximus IV Gene-Z/GEN3 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131806
CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115072
RAM1: SAMSUNG 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147094
the two stick is not available right now so i would get two of those
RAM2: SAMSUNG 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147096
GPU: GIGABYTE GV-N570OC-13I Rev2.0 GeForce GTX 570 (Fermi) - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125384
PSU: OCZ ModXStream Pro 700W Modular - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341018
HSF: CORSAIR H80 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181016

will be about 50-100 bucks cheaper too and a good deal better performance

You can either be part of the problem or be part of the solution.

Amy dont worry BoT is right is system would be much better all the way around. And believe me he knows what he is talking about. And elieve me a GTX570 will perform 100% better than a 5770 which is about equal to a GTX260

ASRock Z97 Extreme 4 / i7 4790K / Corsair H80i / 4x4GB Crucial Ballistix Smart Tracer DDR3 1600 / 1TB Western Digital Caviar Black / 240GB Mushkin Chronos Deluxe SSD / 2x Evga GTX 670 FTW 2GB in SLI / Sound Blaster Recon3D Fatal1ty / Corsair HX1000w

thanks mo

amy, the i5 750/760 are out going socket. the 1156 is discontinued by intel and replaced by the 1155 socket which features the 2500k/2600k2700k also called sandy bridge
the 2500k is the cheapest "unlocked" processor of the bunch. for $100 bucks more you can upgrade to the 2600k and get hyper threading if you need it.

the motherboard is gen3 so it will support the next and up coming generation of cpu's which are called ivy bridge. in case you want to upgrade some time later.

the ram i picked is low profile, low power and very expandable. it runs well above 1600 mhz so if you ever feel the need for more here, you have the headroom available

the psu you picked out is good, i just prefer modular, much easier on cable management

the case is a bit simpler. for $10 bucks more you can acyually get the newer antec three oh two which is even better. they have very good airflow, are made well and have a bottom mounted psu

the corsair h80 is a liquid cooled system, speaks for itself

You can either be part of the problem or be part of the solution.
