So, I just simply could NOT play The Witcher 2 for the longest time due to the horrible character movement lag. This means when you move Gerault(usually running) he would jitter forward. This was considered unplayable for me. I looked around for a fix for this FOREVER but everything I tried failed.

There is only ONE solution as far as I know, and it's not an obvious one. There is a .dll file you need to add to your Witcher directory which will fix the issue. The file is called d3d9.dll. You need to download this file(from anywhere on the net) and add it to your main Witcher directory and your 'bin' folder. Launch the game, lag is gone. Just wanted to let anyone else on the net know this.

http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=8109 That's the DirectX End-User Runtimes. You should go to the MS link I provided and download the whole DX runtime package and make sure your DX is up to date with the latest version. I'm usingWitcher2 on Win7 64 with no problems. Also using ATI drivers for my HD6850. 10-12 for Win7 and 10-10 Beta for Win8

EDIT: Actually you should probably delete that file before hand. I wouldn't trust any .dll file I downloaded off some .dll download site. You should find the d3d9 d3d10 and d3d11.dll files in System32 if you need to copy one into a game program.

Interesting.

Good to know for future games i may have a problem with.
I would have assumed that the game had problems with Hyper Threading and would have turned it off like i had to in BF3.

Marked this thread as a favorite since I think it'll help in the future.

Sorry, I didn't delve much into the technical portion of the file, although I had a good idea of what it was for. I just wanted to be able to play the game. Every since I installed it, it lagged beyound belief to the point where it just wasn't playable for me(only game like this). I found someone tried the d3d9 file in ONE thread. One thread on the entire net, how ridiculous is that. This could help for other games as well but for people who need a 'real' fix for their Witcher 2 lag, this should be it.

Lol Michael, I thought you being a Witcher fan would have bought the game on launch date like me :P

Now the game needs a monster gpu to run well but I don't think I got frame stutters, or last not severe enough for me to stop playing. Nvidia ftw!

Meats, I did buy it on launch.

The game runs fine but it's cleary not optimized the best. Now that I can actually play it we'll see how it really runs.

Hello Plug, long time man!

As for playing the first game, if you're interested in the characters and how Geralt is acquainted with them then the first one will provide you with all the answers, also the story is pretty damn good too, it deals more with politics but it will make you appreciate the characters in the second game better.

Also, remember to download the Enhanced Edition patch, they released it a couple of weeks ago and it fixes and adds a lot of content to the game.

Also, watch this bad ass cinematic if you haven't seen it already 10 times like me:

I'm recovering from rotator cuff surgery on Mar.20th and Prostate surgery on May 1st, so actually I'm quite miserable. Walking around with tubes stuck in me. Other than that I'm doing OK.

Wow Payton, that's almost a day for a double post! You must either have a very slow connection, or your packets couldn't walk any faster... ;)

Anyway, wish you a full recovery from your surgeries. Good health, live long, and prosper, man!

That is weird! Actually I've been having a hard time with my system lagging quite a bit. I can only watch YouTube videos at the lowest resolutions and I still get bad lag. Can't figure it out except for this vid card is a major piece of crap or something is failing.
Thanks for the well wishes Dr.
