Newegg is selling motherboards that come with HDMI or DVI ports but don't have onboard video. This confuses me. What's the point of the port? Can someone explain? I am sure it is something obvious, I just am not realizing it.

.
I'm not a follower of Intel's integrated video CPUs, but doesn't this explain that motherboard?
Short answer: it depends which CPU/motherboard combination you use. (e.g. since it's an H55 board, as long as you use the correct CPU it will be able to take advantage of the onboard video ports)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGA_1156
[i]All LGA 1156 processors and motherboards made to date are interoperable....However, using a chip with integrated graphics on a P55 motherboard will...not allow use of the on-board graphics processor, and likewise, using a chip without integrated graphics on a H55, H57 or Q57 motherboard will not allow use of the motherboard's graphics ports[i]

Here's info from Intel on CPU graphics v. motherboard integrated graphics

edit:
add link to intel's info page

The GPU is in the same chip as the CPU. A lot of the boards are following this trend now, and getting away from separate IGP chips.

I was right, it was obvious. I completely forgot about those newfangled cpu's.
