Hi Everyone

I have a Toshiba Satellite P200 and there is a problem with the Display , it works and it does not work .

I have done some checks and the Backlight is on , and it works ok with a second monitor .
The question I really want to ask is , where is the switch or contact on the Lid or body of the Laptop that shuts down the screen when I close the Lid , I have the Laptop stripped down and I can not see anywhere , where there is some sort of contact mechanical or magnetic between the Lid and Palm rest .

I thought that there me have been something where the Lid Latches close but can not see anything .

cheers

To answer your question, the switch is a magnet reed switch the location is just to the right of the left LCD latch and toward the front of the touch pad. I found the magnetic by slowly tracing along the top of the LCD with a paper clip. the magnet grabbed the clip and this is what activates the switch. That having been said, I would suspect your problem is with the video processor rather than the switch. Had a problem like this with mine. Sorry for the delay getting to you, Illness will slow you down.

Hi there

Thank you for your reply , yes I think that you are correct in that it is a Problem with the Video chip , I tried another LCD Panel and it was the same , I also managed to get hold of a Tech drawing for the Motherboard ( yes I know I was going to deep ) and it shows the Video chip outputs and the output to the LCD is a different line than to the VGA socket .

Sorry if I am going on a bit , I just like the challenge of fixing something , but in this case I give up and give the Laptop back to my Sister to Auction off .

cheers and I hope that you are getting better .

The challenge of finding to the root cause of the problem is what most of us strive for here. The reward is being able to pass that knowledge on. Be careful, you could challenge yourself into a computer whizz..:)
