I am in a look out for free software to monitor my internet bandwidth and usage. I am using genuine windows 7 OS and would like feature such as my upload and download speed, data usage on daily, monthly and yearly basis. I do not need any graphs or other stuff. Just basics.

Almost a fortnight ago, i downloaded software. But after 5 hours of laptop usage and on next bootup, my windows 7 went for startup repair and deleted that software.
Thanks to one and all in advance!

.
I've used freeware Bitmeter2 for a long time and had no problems with it. The statistics tables it provides are very detailed and provide the time display/logging granularity you're looking for.

The same group also apparently has something called Bitmeter OS (a replacement?) which I have NOT used so can't talk to.

Bitmeter OS seems designed to provide a smaller footprint with fewer external dependencies. Might be more graphic driven.

Exactly i used this software. Now i remember it. I downloaded the software from this link.

But within hours of its download, my win 7 went for startup repair and disabled the program completely by next boot up.

Anyway thanks for taking time in answering the query of mine.

It's possible when you downloaded the file it was contaminated, corrupted, or infected by a third party, or simply the download was corrupted. It happens. It's one reason I wish ALL programmers and/or download sites* provided hashes for their download file(s).

IMO, majorgeeks has a long-time record of reliability. They've done a great job over the years of ensuring files are uninfected and uncorrupted, identifying adware, etc, and even try to give folks a heads-up when an available program may install adware, toolbars, etc as part of the installation process.

I've been using bitmeter2 (sourced from majorgeeks) on multiple non-business computers since 2005. No problems ever associated with the program. I've been using 3.5.10.23336 for awhile now...also problem free.

*Some download sites repackage/modify the files to include/embed download source information...thus, site-specific file hashing is sometimes needed.
