Huh. Thanks for all the help guys; those of you who are left anyways. It's a shame that Ian Yeoh & McFly never left calling cards.

Haha, it just kinda shocked me that it's been that long. It's the longest that I've kept up with any web community, on the original website.

Congrats!

Who was york? I don't recognize that name.

Losing McFly sucked, that dude was knowledgeable, calm, and reasonable.

And silly me. I did some recon & figured out I actually meant Ian Yeoh. My memory is all fuzzy.

Oh yeah, Ian Yeoh. That dude was knowledgeable, he just got tired of all the crap he had to take from people thinking he was bragging. He was a little ostentatious but if I had that money, I'd have the latest and greatest too. I would be buying used hardware like I do all the time.

Remember OCGW? THAT dude was an instigator, him and Supreet were involved in some absolutely epic flame wars as I recall.

Just stopped in to see what has happened to the site. I'm kind of amazed it's still up given the lack of activity!

Wonder what happened... :/

It's funny to think that this site was written from scratch and not based on any forum software!

Congrats dude.

I was silly and immature when I was new here. I am going through bad patch of my life these days, divorce, no job, no money.

I am here 9.6 years as well. Come to think of it, that's quite a long time. Many of us went through quite a bit of changes in life. Myself, started posting here when I was still finishing college, and now been through like 3 job changes.

That's one part of the reasons for the decline of this site, because people grow up and leave the site due to changes in interests. The other reasons we already know: neglect of the site owners; and the decline of the PC hardware enthusiasm. The number of people interested in building their own system has steadily declined as the smart phones / tablets industries are getting more enormous. Now you can't go anywhere without seeing a tablet or a phone with touch interface in people's hands. The same goes for the PC gaming industry, steady decline. Now a lot of the game developers have move on to the mobile platforms and to the new model of gaming business: in game sales and advertisement; a gold mine for profits.

With that said, however, I think to this day, this site remains to be a clean design in IT discussion forums and with actually knowledgeable contributors. Besides a few spammers, at least there aren't much forum trolls here, as I've seen getting rampant in other forums, owing largely to the decline in popularity here. And don't forget we are the old fashion people now, typing slowly in a PC for a post with educated / well thought out comments. Kids these days are getting more impatient and usually posting on forums utterly nonsenses in one liners with their mobile phones.

For Supreet, life is a roller coaster sometimes, but stay in there, you will get back up again in no time! Best of wishes for you.

Regarding the hardware enthusiasm, I think it's just become more centralized around Reddit. I've been going to /r/buildapc for what I'd usually come here for, which was to check out the new builds and there's loads of them there. Usually I'll only come here now for anything I can't find via Google because y'all cut through the crap & start by giving me info that's beyond tier 1 support.

I barely post anymore on PC forums, I keep in touch with current tech by reading Tom's Hardware but the stupidity of the people in the forums keeps me from being a part of that community, that and there's too much fanboyism. Been meaning to give Anandtech a try but seriously, HWA back in the day was THE FORUM I learned so much stuff from here. :(

Same here, Meats. I google stuff, eg this CPU vs that CPU, and inevitably get a link to Toms with a bunch of inane posts that don't answer my question.

I tried hanging around Anandtech after there was some blow up here, I think Sander did something that p**sed me off and that lead to Adames-Hill quitting as a mod, and I needed another tech site to go to, but it wasn't the same.

First post in this forum for a long time but checking my Profile it says I joined 9.4 years ago.

I to remember when this used to be a really busy forum, I remember when the Moderator left on bad terms, can't remember his name he was pretty young and pretty sure he was Mexican/American I spoke to him a few times he gave me an invite for Gmail when it first came out.

I'm guessing the owner of this site is still the Dutch guy and I remember at 1 point loads were complaining as he seemed to have just left the site to die and he had his fight thing with Radeon or was it AMD can't remember.

Thank you, Dr. Peaceful :) Divorce is one of the worst thing to happen.

I remember many things from ATI 9800Pro to Sasser worm to AMD Barton processor, and especially that AMD XP 2500+M :D

Sander Sassen had a fight with Chris Hook over some event. Chris Hook told me that Sander Sassen was NOT invited to X1800XT launch event, so Sander Sassen released fake benchmarks before the launch to lower the interest and sale of long awaited X1800XT.
