Hi all, I have a huge problem with my laptop. I just got it about 3 months ago but recently, just yesterday, it won't start up. Power button and the lights are all on, adapter? (The cylinder icon at the corner) light keeps flashing too. Screen flickers on and off (but dim flickering) and the cd drive keeps making this weird clicking sound like there is something stuck inside. Yesterday I left it alone for a few seconds and the system could start up and work fine. But today the same things all happen again and this time, it won't boot at all. Can anyone help me? Excuse my ignorance as I don't know much abt IT stuffs so a simple explanation on what to do will really be appreciated. Thanks! (Btw there's nothing in the disk drive) :)

Hello,

BTW what operating system are your using? The next thing is did you add any hardware or software recently to your PC.

When you switch on the PC, what is coming on screen instead of regular bootup process? Any pop up kind stuff displaying on your screen?

I had a similar issue, with my Dell laptop and later found that my latest RAM upgrade was at fault.

Thank you for the reply. It is operating on 64 bit, windows 8. I recently added avg antivirus 30-days trial program on my laptop :/ before that there weren't any problems with other software. No hardware installed too. Nothing comes up on the screen either, just dim flickering of the entire screen.

Hello,

AVG is a well recognized AV software and so chances of it creating such trouble is very less. But if the trial is over, then these kind of troubles can be expected.

Hi thanks for the advice. I just installed AVG so the trial isn't over yet. Turns out the weird sound is my cd drive trying to read discs even though there is nothing inside. I have taken the laptop to a repair shop and one of the guys there said it is a hardware problem. Since the laptop is only about 2-3 months old, I'm claiming warranty for it. Thanks for all the help.

I would suggest the following simple steps and hope this can help to reset the laptop:

1. remove all power sources including power adapter and battery.
2. pressing the laptop power button over 15 seconds do not let go.
3. connect the power cord only and power on the laptop again.
This will discharge the laptops.

Hope this helps.
