Facebook Privacy Settings Mislead Users Into A False Sense of Privacy/Security?
I Asked a Privacy Lawyer What Facebook's New Terms and Conditions Will Mean for You
December 1, 2014 By Michael Grothaus

"And tinkering with your privacy settings would help you opt out of these intrusive new TOS?
Well, NO. You can adjust your settings to change which people can see what you post: Global—which is everyone, the whole internet—Friends of Friends, Just Friends, or you matter what settings you use here, these settings only affect the way you share with others.(Facebook USERS)

It has NO OUTCOME on how Facebook shares your stuff—that's all dictated by the unchangeable TOS that you need to agree to to be allowed use Facebook in the first place.
(emphases added)

Keep in mind that with such a detailed track of your every move, government agencies also (without requiring a specific warrant) will have less of a problem identifying who was in a given area at a given time, using GPS as opposed to just cellphone(mobile) tower positioning, This could have broad implications if you simply happen to be near an area in which a crime was committed, a protest was held, etc.

Note that the Facebook App does NOT have to be "active" to provide the location data to Facebook.

While I appreciate Naveen's pointing out another issue regarding apparently false internet rumors about Facebook, it needs to be made clear, the copyright issue Naveen refers to has nothing to do with the warning re the very real and escalating privacy issues raised in the new Terms of Service and the way in which Facebook seems to misdirect users into thinking their data are secure. It's a different subject.
