US Court "Passwords ARE Protected by 5th Amendment"
 Date Written
john albrich Oct 01, 2015, 09:15am EDT Report Abuse
This reverses prior US court rulings that have held people JAILED for contempt for refusing to provide their passwords (passcodes) to their devices, encrypted data, cloud data, etc.

This is a huge win for digital privacy. I expect appeals by prosecutors, ultimately leading to the SCOTUS.
Court Rules that Passcodes are Privileged Information
A court has ruled that defendants are not required to hand over pass codes for their devices.
The court ruled that handing over passcodes would deprive them of their Fifth Amendment constitutional rights.

This is really a morale boosting win for those who are concerned about Privacy. Also seen on internet that NSA is forcing companies like Google, Facebook, apple to share user info with it. Otherwise, its threatening to shut down those businesses which aren't obeying its orders.
