Have you had anything magnetic touch or get really close to the screen? Why dont you try lowering the frequency of your monitor OR use degauss. Hopefully, your laptop monitor has degauss?

I had the same problem, i believe it's the cmos battery but not sure. What i do is to unplug the cmos battery wires that are located below the keyboard, disconnect power and battery, also the white cables that are also below the keyboard and wait 1 minute or more. Replug everything and you're done. It'll start again.

The strange thing is that if you press F8 during the system start up (before the compaq logo) you'll see the System Restore Menu, but any of the options will boot the OS, that's why i believe it has to be the CMOS battery.

Thank you so much for the advice to unplug and replug the wires beneath the keyboard! We had the exact same problem - the screen went white from top to bottom, the rebooted and was fine. Then the next day it flickered and then went black 50 pages into a final paper due the next day. Lifting up the keyboard and unplugging the wires, waiting a bit, replugging them in, and restarting did the trick. We selected option F1 to save the changes made (an error message came up on the Compaq display), and then Windows loaded up as normal. The 50 page paper was retrieved! Thank you again.

I have a Compaq Armada 1750. Since a two days ago, when turn my computer on, after a few moment, generally when windows starts loading, two bip sounds. Is this a kind of message??

I have the same problem. I am deciding to replace the white connector of the screen. Is there any one knowing what is the model of the white connector? Is it a standard connector and can be easily got from the market? Thanks in advance.

i have what seems like the same problems with my Compaq 1750 as Troy Irvine said he did in his post. when i start it up...all that comes up is the Compaq logo, then nothing happens. i can get some stuff come up if i press F8 while it is starting up though...so i know its not a display problem. this has not happened on just one computer though, it has happened on all three that i have recieved. i know this because i put a little tiny dot of white nail polish on the bottom to see if they just sent the same one back. anyway, i bought it from a company that sells refurbished computers. they are now refusing to accept this one back, saying it is my fault that it isnt doing what i want it to, eventhough it doesnt work longer than a day after getting it and turning it on, and i have never connected to the interent with it. sorry this is long, but if anyone has ANY information PLEASE tell me what i can do...i just need it to work for like 5 minutes to save some writings i have on it since i did not save it in time the last time it quit working on me. thank you....

This worked for me (for both the white screen and the 'black' screen problem)...

As the craptop starts up... press and hold Fn key and the F9 key together *and* continually tap the F11 key. This should take you into the 'emergency' BIOS option. Once you are there press F1 to reset & save the BIOS.

After the system reboots, you will need to reset the time & date.

i have a compaq armada 1750 which has display problms.. the display looks small on my monitor... i dont know how to make it big....

my laptopn only shows 2 types of resolutions in the Display Properties..... cant find the rest of the resolutions options......

i dont know what its all about.... got any ideas...... ??

I have found an additional way to solve - temporarily - the "white monitor" problem:

Connect a stand alone monitor to the vga connector and switch the display to it and back. You will see the screen on your standalone monitor without any problems and when you have switched back, you will have your screen back on your compaq.

Maybe there is a way to build only an vga connector with a stand alone monitor to switch "virtually".

I own a COMPAQ ARMADA 1750 6333/T/6400/D/M/3 laptop. Can someone tell me how I may enter the setup bios. F10 does NOT work. I tried an array of other keys with No luck. I am running Windows 98SE. This laptop does NOT boot to A:\>drive with either a setup floppy or CD Windows 98SE. I tried to download a user manual, but I can only find 1750 family. my hp does the same thing. I wish i could figure out what the problem is. I think it may be loose wires that go through the hinges from base to screen, because sometimes it quits if i move the screen a bit.

The problem has caused my backlight to burn out twice (not cheap).

Does anybody know what the f'n problem is?

It has been some time since I posted my original item. I have since them gotten rid of the laptop however I did discover the issue.

There are 2 cables that connect the display to the board. One is for power, it is the smaller of the two. The larger cable is for video. Compaq went cheap on the design and instead of using Gold conductors the used Silver. Over time Silver oxidizes and the contacts become weaker. The fix this problem I did the following.

Remove all power sources from the laptop. Disconnect the power cord and remove the battery.

Then I removed the cover over the 2 cables and disconnected them.

I then used silver cleaner and a q-tip to clean the contacts on the connectors and plugs. Being very careful not to bend the contacts on the board.

Let it dry over night and then reconnected everything. My problems went away for about 4 to 6 months and then I would have to repeat the process.

Now if you do the above do so at your own risk. Over the course of a couple years I did this and then one day as I was taking things apart I got side tracked by one of the kids. When I got back to my little project I forgot to remove the battery from the laptop. As soon as I put the silver cleaner on the power contact on the board for the LCD it went up in smoke. Luckily it was the Audio/LCD board that the LCD connected too and I got one on E-Bay for about 20 bucks. I replaced it and I was good to go again. Ultimately I got tired of cleaning the contacts and eventually the plug on the LCD came un done. The wires came out, I guess from unplugging it so much. I just removed the LCD and connected the laptop to a 17” CRT for my daughter so she could have a PC that would fit on her very small desk.

In regards to the HP with the same problem. You could be having a similar issue, maybe not. You may be able to search on the internet and find out what type of material was used on the contacts for the LCD connection.

As a Tech I see some bad problems with laptops, new and old. But the worst ones seem to always be found or fixed by guys that have one and tell all. My worst problems are usually found on these great forums. Thx Trae Stephens and Martin Kindler I just moved and found these older laptops in a box. I have all sorts of people asking for something that just goes on the net to get kids used to computers. "They only go on facebook,msn and and few others like that". Well these found laptops are just the thing. As a tech I figured no problem. More Ram bigger hdd, I have that in other boxes. So off I went, For a hole damn week to get all them running as I think they should. Gave neighbor kids to test. Two had this very same problem. I tried everything and carefully ripped apart these two a few times. To no avail, I did do a few searches and found thousands. None worked but when I read this I knew. ALL is well and the kids love the old laptops and the parents even more.
