Mario,

Try increasing your FSB every 5MHz. When you have stability problems, then increase your Vcore 0.25 up. You could probably get 400MHz FSB/System Bus with 1.70 Vcore. This will give you a nice 11x200 = Athlon 3200+.@ 2.2GHz. You may need heat spreaders for your memory though. The 2500+ has a locked Multi[plier of 11x. Well, the newer cpu's do. My 2500+ can go up to 12.5x and down to 10x.

Good Luck.

Don't rule out AMD so fast, they can't be the best all the time. ;)

Hello,

How do I increase my FSB every 5 mhz???? Using some kind of overclocking program besides the BIOS Setup??? And I can change the multiplier up to 13x and somehow I couldn`t change the FSB to 200mhz, I think its because my out of date BIOS version, and I can`t update right know because some kind of noise my motherboard produces, I`m still waiting for a new BIOS version whithout that damn noise ...

What about my Volcano 9 ???

Thanks

Does this noise come up when you have overclocked your cpmputer? If so, it's not the harddrive making this noise, it's your motherboards chipset. It makes this noise, because you are changing it's default settings and it's saving the new settings. Sometimes it's loud and sometimes it's not. But after you have chosen a proper overclock, then you shouldn't hear that noise anymore. And if you do, then it shouldn't be too loud.

Here is a website which you can download the utility clockgen from cpuid. Remember, that this is a temperary overclock. You should find your most stable settings, and then use the bios for a permanent overclock.

Choose your motherboard make then download.

And the Volcano 9 is a great cooler.

I have an MSI K7N2 Delta
Athlon 2500
1GB of PC2700 DDR Ram
Audigy 2 xs
Ati 9800 Pro 128mb Graphics card

My board has the nforce 2 chipset and has a feature in the bios to overclock. When I try to load high performance setting i have to jump out the CMOS to get back in. However I can set it to high performance settings under the Advanced chipset features but it doesn't overclock my cpu very much at all. What is limiting me here my memory or lack of knowledge?

Chris Edwards did you just do the high performance setting thing ? if so set the fsb up to 200 from 166 but only in 5s at a time when you reach 200fsb you will see it fly better

Hey I'm working on what you recommended as we speak, thanks for the fast follow up. Is my PC2700 ddr going to limit me. Still climbing up to 200 manually.

chris just adjust the FSB/DRAM Ratio to match the speed of the PC 2700 DDR.

How do you adjust the FSB/DRAM ratio and how do I tell what timing my memory is set at. I have gotten my 2500 up to 2.0 ghz but if I go higher I noticed my fsb speed gets lower. It gets higher than 333 where its at now like 364 but if I go a notch higher it drops to like 304. Is my memory limiting me or can someone explain how I adjust the DRAM ratio.

Cordially,

Chris

O.k. I found my memory timing in the Bios set to high performance and the readings are as follows:

T- (RAS) 8
T- (RCD) 3
T- (RP) 3
CAS LATENCY 3.0

I hope this helps?????/

facts are
athlon 3000 default mulitplyer 13 fss 166

so with default cooling

fsb 190 multipler 13 total clock speed 2470mhz
keeps up with 3.4 on most tests

when up cpu voltage by 10percent i can get fsb 200 and still multipler 13 and im not unlocked!
total 2600mhz still air cooled.
so these are facts no bull **** so you lot out there get with it and stop wasting time.
by the way my memory is samsung ddr2700 and yes it overclocks very nice, with no voltage increase.
and yes the athlon 2500 does not keep up air cooled it would fall over and best buy would be athlon 3000 as it does overclock very smooth, cheaper than a 3.4p4 isnt it!!

The CPU's are the items that are locked. A motherboard cannot unlock a cpu. I have that board and I also have 3 cpu's. 3200XP 2800XP and 2400XP-M. The only one that is unlocked is the mobile proc. I advise getting an Mobile Athlon XP processor if you want to change the multiplier. I got mine from newegg.com.

Athlon XP's (Bartin Cores) are not fully locked, nd not fully unlocked. My 2500+ non mobile was stock @ 11x multiplier, but I can go to 12.5x MAX. That's it. I think all bartin cores can go upto 1.5x more than there stock multi.

Yeah I got my Athlon 2500+ up to 12.5 multiplier but couldn't go above 180 on fsb setting would lock up during game play. What did you set your fsb too, or did you just leave it at 166 with 12.5 multi?

With my Athlon XP 2500+ I left the Multi to 12.0x w/ 200MHz FSB = 2400MHz (2500MHz ran too Hot)
With my Athlon XP-M 2500+ I multi @ 12.5x w/ 200MHz FSB = 2500MHz (2600MHz ran too Hot)

So, If I were you, I would put the FSB to 200MHz and increase your Multi to 11.5x for a rock stable 2300MHz. It also depends on your cooling solution.

2300+ runs solid.

When overclocking, most people have listed their CPU temps in the neighborhood of 40 C and below. I've overclocked my Athlon XP 2500 on on ASUS A7N8X Deluxe with stock heatsink and cooling and an Antec Sonata case. My CPU temp runs much higher when I check the temp in the bios. I'm running stable but Im worried about frying a component. Do I need to upgrade my cooling and is there a better (and more accurate) way of checking my CPU temp then going into the bios each time?

I'm overclocked to a XP 3000 with a 200FSB, 10.5 multi and 1.725 vcore. I'd appreciate any help you might lend. Thanks.

I think the 1.725 vcore is a little excessive. The 200FSB, 10.5 multi good. Try 200 x 11, and get yourself a Thermaltake Volcano Extreme 12 heat sink & fan. It's for OC'ing, and when you set it up you have the option to let it automatically control its fan speed by installing a sensor under the CPU core or you can control it yourself. It adjusts according to the Temp's.

Here is the link.

I think I may do that today (the installation process has me concerned). One thing tho...Even when I first boot up the system after no use, the CPU temp is listing at 43C and quickly goes to 59 with little running. Is it possible my sensors are malfunctioning? My sensors routinely say I'm over 70C but the system is stable and the box is not warm to the touch.
