I am using 1.14 i think it is, the one that is on asus's website just befor 1.16. I would like to install 1.16 but i can't figure it out. if you could help me out with that i would like it. I downloaded the drivers from http://www.driverheaven.net/downloads/index4.htm, and now i can run in 8x agp and do all my normal things and not have anyproblems. it also has overclocking options with it, real nice. I am still waiting for ati to realease their new driver. Also what is the difference between 1.14 agp driver and 1.16? K thanks guys.

Mine is also an SIS chipset. Dunno bout the drivers. Just know that it is an sis motherboard with and integrated 32mb video card which is disabled for the 9600.

BOO, I take it all back. All hell is now back with me. I installed Battlefields new patch and i froze right up, i was able to kind of play with 4x but real skippy at times. Medal of honor froze on me after about 2 hours of play, BOO no good. I am so sick of this, ati needs to get new drivers that fix this card really quick. and is it just me or is my card the only slow one. my core speed is 325 and mem is 375, seems like it should be a lot higher than that? well guys fill me in.

It could be a heat related issue. gfx cards quickly get hot. i had a problem with my 7000 ati radeon card and occassionally it froze on me until i rearranged some of my fans in my system to direct the cool air to it. since then its been running perfectly.

at 8x speed, that is surely going to boil quickly!

I have a fluent current of air in my system. I also have a fan on my videocard. and a 3 fans around it. I have also felt the heatsink after a freeze and it wasn't hot, not even warm.

I've had virtually no problem ever since I updated my VIA chipset drivers.
All the B.S. "troubleshooting"
All the setting changes.
All the different driver revs.

Almost nothing made any difference, and ones that did were half measures.

One install was all it took.
It's hard to blame ATI, when it appears to be a issue with chipset AGP drivers?

I'm running Catalyst 3.6 with VIa Hyperion 4.49 and loving Battlefield, Generals, SOF2, and even JKII.

Seei if there is a new AGP driver rev for your chipset if it's not a VIA set. The answer may be there too.

My card rocks now, and so does ATI!

Hi, I'm having these Freezing/Restart problems with a 9800 Pro.

I've got a BioStar Small Form Factor system with Athlon 2500+ and 512 Corsair 2700LL Dual Channel on my NForce2 mobo.

Anyone else have the problem with the 9800 Pro?

Seems like the damn thing should work for $400!

Frustratedly yours,
ATI 9800 Novice

Hi, I'm am new in this forum and in radeon 9600 pro. I recently bought a Gigacube radeon 9600 pro 128 DDR and I can't configure it in my KT3 ultra 2. it refuses to work in 32 bits (only in 16) making a lot of undesired lines, etc. morover, it goes authomatically to 60 hz refresh rate and when powered on , it goes again to 800 * 600.

I had an NVIDIA gf4 mx 440, and removed all of its drivers, installed newestvia drivers, etc.
could you help me with bios set-up in my motherboard and give me a hint on what to do with the rest of hardware? I don't want to change my motherboard.

My system is
Athlon xp 2700 (fsb 333)
MSI kt3 ultra 2 (w? latest flash bios)
1gb DDR 333
Maxtor 7200 rpm 40 and 120 GB
gigacube Radeon 9600 pro , 128 DDR
optical mouse microsoft

best regards, Sebastian

I am so angry with SIS and ATI, no one wants to diagos the problem. All i have to say is that if the problem isn't fixed by the time i get the money to buy a new GFFX 5900, then i am getting that card, and if i still have problems i am buying a new motherboard with the Intel chip on it and am going to post bad news all over about sis and ati and their s**tty products.

I have a AMD XP1600, ASUS A7V266, 256MB DDR and a GF2440MX. I bought a PowerColor 9600PRO Bravo Edition to replace the hunk of crap gf2. Removed nvidia drivers, installed the card with catalyst 3.6, boot up, get to desktop and BAM the thing FREEZES, just the beginning of my troubles. After a few hard restarts it doesnt hang, try out a game, loads then when it goes black and nothing, hard restart. Installed catalyst 3.5, same probs except some games got into the game, just to freeze 10 secs later. I changed all the driver settings, BIOS settings everything, made sure I had the latest VIA drivers, still the same problem. I was gettin real p**sed at this point. I updated by mobo BIOS to the latest and everything WORKS GREAT!!!! Not one freeze or black screen, runs great and looks excellent. Maybe a BIOS update will help some ppl out.

Anyone notice that it seems real fixes come from sources other than ATI?
My system froze, rebooted, crashed, and all of that jazz too.
I had insane issues with my card as you can see earlier in this thread, but I'm OK now thanks to a new chipset driver....and this boards help of course.

But slamming ATI when it's an issue with the chipset is silly.
I'm looking at replacing my mobo with an nForce board (kind of like two timing with ATI and nVidia). I here they play nice together, and the performance is great.

And to the guy with the SIS board .....lose it. SIS hasn't been a great chipset maker for a long time....if ever really.
A new nForce board should be in your future too.

have sap 9700 pro and all the newest games
all work great
war3 frozen throne kicks to windows sometimes but i know that is a software problem with war3...
bf1942 & road to rome
jedi 2
c&c
will rock
medal of honor and expansions
matrix
etc..
and every other new game worth buying.
running a 300w ps had artifacts on boot 1 out of 10 times.
chg the pwr config (put the ati by itself , nothing else connected to that pwr lead , problem solved .
alot of times the problems are caused by unstable systems, bad mem (when you rush 1.5 gigs through real fast).
also bad software from the game coders (they can't possable try thier games on every possable system setup).
i'am using win98se.
i was using xp pro but to much of the software is not written for xp yet.
i think alot of your problems are caused by xp , xp pro etc..

oh and if you turn off all your disco lights and 1/2 of the 20 fans you have in your machines you don't need 500w ps.
if you suspect bad game software you can get offical patches or even try the no-cd patches at gamecopyworld.com
alot of times this will clear up the problems...

Well i have updated everything i can get my hands on for my asus motherboard and the chipsets. you would still think that it was wierd that only the 9600 is what is freezing, or well just ATI cards i guess.

The 9600 is based on a new process, the 13um die.
This means that there is bound to be some compatability issues when running such a new part in systems that were never developed with it in mind. Power requirements, and AGP drivers setting needed to be altered.
This took me back to when I upgraded from Win98 to ME, a lot of driver and hardware nightmares there.

AKA "Early Adopter Syndrome".

I've been suprised that it's taken this long for any patches to resolve the issue, and I'm glad it was only a matter of a couple of weeks for me.

I've run ATI stuff before, and I'm happy with my card now. I had an nVidia GeForce3 before, and found it pretty good, but early on I also had issues with it, and it's new core design.

It's an old computer story really.
